Important MEMOs from DPI:
Identification of Charter Schools Safety Personnel
The Center for Safer Schools is looking to improve how the Center communicates with charter schools by identifying the staff member or members within your school who is responsible for school safety. The person(s) you identify will be the point of contact for your organization and they will receive important and time sensitive information related to: upcoming Center trainings, monthly digital newsletter, invitations to attend the quarterly virtual School Safety Directors meetings, invitations to attend the School Safety Summit, emergency notifications from the Center related to possible school threats identified by the NC Homeland Security Intelligence Analysis responsible for school safety and other important school safety related information. Please provide the name, title, email address, office telephone and cellular phone number of the Safety Director and title to Ms. Karen Everett by email at karen.everett@dpi.nc.gov by February 11, 2022. The persons you provide will be identified within the Center as the School's Safety Director.
Several upcoming items to be aware of: Threat/Behavior Assessment Training starting in late February, virtual School Risk Management Plan trainings (where the schools comprehensive safety plans are entered) and of the upcoming School Safety Directors virtual meeting on February 16, 2022, at 11:30 am. Detailed information related to these events will be in our monthly newsletter and disseminated to the school's Safety Director. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Jay Jackson by email at jay.jackson@dpi.nc.gov

2021-2022 AP/IB/CIE Teacher Bonus Pay
Some Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Cambridge International Education (CIE) teachers will qualify for bonus pay in January depending on their students’ scores from the 2020-2021 administration of AP, IB, and AICE exams, based on legislation to reward advanced course teacher performance and support teacher retention as well as to encourage student learning and improvement. Teachers are eligible for AP/IB/CIE bonus pay if they remain teaching in the same LEA or charter school the following year until January 1 of the corresponding school year that the bonus is paid.
AP Coordinators, please follow up with your Finance Department with a list of teachers who are eligible for the bonus in January, as the NCDPI does not provide a list of AP/IB/CIE teachers eligible. You have the AP information you need with the College Board access to AP online score reports.
For more information, please see the 2022 AP/IB/CIE Teacher Bonus Pay FAQ, and contact Beth Cross at beth.cross@dpi.nc.govwith any questions.

Office of Charter Schools (OCS) Updates
Demographics Mirroring Plan
Dear charter school leaders,
Per NC General Assembly Statute 115C-218.45, within one year after the charter school begins operation, the charter school shall make efforts for the population of the school to reasonably reflect the racial and ethnic composition of the general population residing within the local school administrative unit in which the school is located or the racial and ethnic composition of the special population that the school seeks to serve residing within the local school administrative unit in which the school is located. The school shall be subject to any court-ordered desegregation plan in effect for the local school administrative unit.
Beginning in January 2022, the Office of Charter Schools will be collecting these plans annually to keep on file through Epicenter.
In the document you upload, due January 28th, please list or describe in applicable detail, using your discretion as school leader, the ways your school is attempting to reflect the community your school resides in. OCS is purposely not providing a template or form to give our schools the most flexibility in providing this information. If you have any questions about this, reach out to dave.machado@dpi.nc.gov
