Southeast Guilford High School Recognized as a
North Carolina State School of Character
Southeast Guilford High School is a traditional school located in Greensboro, North Carolina serving roughly 1300 students in grades 9 – 12. They have a nationally ranked NJROTC program, offer 14 unique CTE Career Pathways, teach 14 different Advanced Placement courses, and provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while taking courses at the local community college.
The goal at Southeast is for students to reach their highest potential by providing a school environment that is rich in rigor, relevance, and relationships. They value character, service, family, and community. Their diverse community, student body, and staff work collectively to improve the educational outcomes of all students. Their commitment to continuous improvement of all students is centered around the Falcon Fundamentals, a set of core instructional practices that support students academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. The development of the Falcon Fundamentals has led to the emergence of their motto: Every teacher, every student, every day.
Character is universal and includes a set of common core values that allow us as individuals to rise above differences. Everyone can be successful with Character Education. Character Education is at the heart of what they do as Southeast Falcons. It is what nurtures the sense of community within their school. Character Education makes their learning at Southeast more meaningful, impacts their school culture, and transcends the building as they graduate future leaders with a strong moral compass.

Union Academy Recognized as a National and
North Carolina State School of Character
Union Academy is a K-12 charter school in Monroe, NC, and was established in 2000 on the pillars of Challenge, Character and Community. Their Character Education journey was created with the following foundation in mind; to educate the whole child by incorporating community service and their eight character traits (Compassion, Adaptability, Respect, Responsibility, Optimism, Trustworthiness, Perseverance, Initiative) into a challenging curriculum. Union Academy has grown and changed exponentially through the years in number, size, and demographics, yet the character education culture that develops students into good citizens, lifelong learners and community volunteers has remained firmly intact. Union Academy’s character program includes a Character Coach, parents, staff, students, and community members to help maintain a consistent and enriching program where they are perpetually learning and growing. Union Academy also hosts an annual Character Day, with recognized authors and motivational speakers, character assemblies, advisory lessons, character goal writing for high school students, and book studies, etc. The impact of character education is evident in the yearly surveys the school conducts where character is always listed by staff, students, and parents as a leading reason they chose to attend Union Academy.
At Union Academy, their 2,000 students believe in doing the right thing, even when no one is looking, and that historic Union Academy pledge is promulgated across the school campus each morning after the pledge of allegiance
