Destinations and Risk of NEET
Year 11 Transition
We have a fortnight, for all school based careers staff, to have one last push to ensure all your Year 11 students have got destinations for September. By now you will have received an email from the CCIS Team, requesting an update of your RONI lists, with offer information. This will enable us to track and monitor those young people without an offer, over the summer break. The closing date is this week, Friday 3 July.
We have also had a couple of requests for a sample template for a Transition Plan. We have designed one that doubles up as a ‘readiness’ checklist that covers most of the essential areas that a young person will need to prepare for. I am pretty sure that most of you will already have a plan in place for your high risk RONI students, but just in case, this may be of help. You can also attach it with the Transition Referral form to send to post 16 providers to help them put the right support package in place.

Transition Referral Form Guidelines
We are now in the process of putting the final touches to our own plan to sustain our transition campaign to support Year 11’s and 12’s over July and August. We are going to be working closely with youth providers, who will be delivering a summer programme to identify and refer any young people without a destination. We are also going to run information stalls in a couple of our highest NEET hotspot neighbourhoods, to reach families of young people who may not have an offer yet. Career Connect will be working hard to engage those young people without an offer and will be running a social media campaign across the month of August.
So lots going on and hopefully, by the time schools reopen, we will be able to update you about the progress of your students and together we can monitor their enrollment and transition into their post 16 destinations.
I have been so impressed since Covid-19 turned our worlds upside down, of the commitment and hard work you have put into supporting your Year 11’s, and I really do hope all of our efforts payoff in September.
Looking forward to seeing you all next Tuesday at the last CEIAG network meeting for this year.

Manchester Connect
Over the summer they will continue to work with colleges, employers and local training providers, to ensure that offers are taken up, and young people start their next steps with confidence. As part of this, they will be working with providers that are offering summer programmes, so please get in touch if you are a provider and would like to work with them.
They will also be working closely with schools, to ensure those young people without a clear idea of what they want to do, have the opportunity to find out more and choose from a wide selection of courses and training,
If you know any young people who have not got a destination for September, please can you refer them, so they can receive one to one support.
To refer a young person to us, or if you are a provider who wants to find out more, please contact:

Linking curriculum learning to careers - Gatsby Benchmark 4
How one member of our Network is using this time, to help her school strengthen their curriculum links to careers.
In our recent CEIAG conversations we asked the Network what work they were able to carry out at the moment. Christine, Head of Careers at Wright Robinson College (mixed 11–16 secondary school), told us of the work she was doing with the curriculum leads at her school. We asked her if she would be happy to share some info in this newsletter, and she has kindly sent in the summary below:
So… with the unexpected downtime on our hands I contacted heads of departments to see if we could work on BM4 and get some solid links in Schemes of Work for as many subjects as possible. I quickly realised that there could be no generic approach as each subject delivers differently eg some have booklets, some use PP lessons.
I also realised that they very much wanted ownership of this and had to carefully suggest that whatever they did, I needed to oversee to quality check information. Note to self……big picture, a great step forward in achieving this benchmark so don’t be precious !!
However in an attempt to have some continuity I suggested:
- I provided a slide template and suggested format for both a job profile and a separate one for skills profile that could be slotted in to a lesson PP,
- I created a careers logo so that teachers could insert this wherever they felt a careers link was appropriate,
- I asked that the GMACS and Xello logos were also included on any slides to signpost students to further research. ( we are launching GMACS in September)
I have had a great response to this with over half of subjects wanting to get involved. I am sure that once teaching resumes I will evaluate and monitor to see how it works.
Thanks Christine, for sharing some of your tips for Gatsby Benchmark 4.

GMACS is now live and provides advice, guidance and support for young people at all stages of their education and transition. GMACS has content to inspire and support young people in GM throughout the lockdown, and beyond, as they continue to develop and update this all the time.Over the coming weeks, they will be adding new employer led content and guides for educators on all of the platform benefits, from student’s college and apprenticeship applications, to developing data informed lessons, interventions and careers programmes to supporting Gatsby Benchmark implementation.
The Bridge GM Team are on hand to support schools and colleges to make the most of all of the features of the site. GMACS is available for you to use now, but to make the most of all of its features please do join over 100 schools and colleges already using the platform and sign up by contacting them at – gmacsenquiries@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk or contact Claire & Nafisa.
Another reminder about the forthcoming GMACS engagement session for Manchester Careers Leads and Careers support colleagues Monday 6 July at 10.30am till 12.30pm.
A save the date and time went out to all Careers Leaders and Heads last week, and the precise joining instructions for the session will follow this week. Sign up and on boarding for GMACS from schools in Manchester has been disproportionally low given the numbers in the network, so Bridge GM strongly encourage Careers Leaders to be on this session, in order to see how the platform can enhance and support your role, and furthermore broaden and increase careers related digital learning available to students.
