News
As lockdown restrictions are eased and more people come into the city centre there is a need to share the most recent public health advice, provide mental health support and to reassure people. This campaign was launched with a virtual Manchester hug, and messages over the city centre's digital screens.
Businesses are encouraged to print off the posters from the Welcome Back Manchester website, and use them in stores/workplaces. Feel free to use them in your workplace.

Digital Census Job Opportunities
There will be full time and part time roles available; lasting weeks or months; at different levels: officer, supervisory or management. It is important to them to have a diverse workforce, so they would like to reach all community groups in their inclusive recruitment. You may want to pass this on to any young people or parents that you work with.
They can find out more or register their interest by visiting the Census website.
Extra mental health support for pupils and teachers
The government recently announced it will be introducing new online resources, designed by health and education experts, for staff and pupils, encouraging them to talk more confidently about the anxieties and concerns they feel as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
A new training module for teachers has also been published to support them in giving lessons on the Government’s new Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum, which will make mental health and wellbeing a compulsory part of pupils’ education in primary and secondary school.

Safeguarding
At our recent CEIAG conversations some of you asked for safeguarding advice in relation to contacting your students from personal phones. We asked our Safeguarding Lead for Education, and they suggested, that although it's not statutory, we recommend schools to use the Guide for Safer Working Practices. See Section 12 for use of technology.
Schools and colleges should have their own policy re use of devices and Social Media. Some have amended them recently to allow use of personal mobiles during the specific Covid-19 situation, but this should not be long term and organisations may need to be buying more phones etc for their staff.
The Safeguarding team produce a Safeguarding Newsletter, with FAQs, links to relevant info, and resources.

News from our partners
Manchester Connect
Manchester Connect is the local IAG service commissioned by Manchester Local Authority to work across the City of Manchester; supporting young people aged 16 - 18, to make informed choices about education, employment and training. They work with young people who are vulnerable, including those who access: the Leaving Care Service up to age 25, Youth Justice, Manchester Secondary Pru, The Federation of Schools known as Endeavour, and young people who have an Education Health Care Plan up to age 25.
During this period, they have continued to engage young people and help them make informed choices on their next steps, adapting to the current situation by using innovative digital methods to work with young people.
Over the summer they will continue to work with colleges, employers and local training providers, to ensure that offers are taken up, and young people start their next steps with confidence. As part of this, they will be working with providers that are offering summer programs, so please get in touch if you are a provider and would like to work with them.
They will also be working closely with schools, to ensure those young people without a clear idea of what they want to do, have the opportunity to find out more and choose from a wide selection of courses and training,
If you know any young people who have not got a destination for September, please can you refer them, so they can receive one to one support.
To refer a young person to us, or if you are a provider who wants to find out more, please contact:

Updates on activities and resources
Resources GM Higher staff have been working hard to develop a variety of new online resources for learners in Year 9 to Year 13. They have created videos and worksheets which cover many topics including student life, budgeting, wellbeing, study skills, interview skills and transition from Y11 to college. They have also signposted to useful resources and content provided by their external providers and other services. You can filter by topic area and audience or use their search tool.
GM Higher Events and Activities The existing online activities, that would usually be delivered in schools, are now available to be delivered online. These sessions will be 30 minutes in length, and will be either delivered using a platform called GoToWebinar which removes many of the safeguarding risks, or alternatively using your school’s preferred platforms. They have produced risk assessments and online safeguarding guidance for these activities too. You can book any of the activities by heading to the events and activities webpage.
Virtual Maths Club, is an online community which will provide you with a wide range of free engaging and practical maths resources to encourage attainment and learning. You’ll receive weekly problem sheets and full solutions, with both new and tried-and-tested ways of raising motivation and enthusiasm in maths. The resources are designed to encourage and enhance problem-solving and thinking skills, to engage pupils in online learning, and to challenge boundaries of achievement for pupils age 11-18.
The activities will address key challenging topics, including fractions, ratio, algebra, geometry and problem-solving.
