SOFTWARE UPDATES TO I-8000 INSTRUMENTS IN OHIO

odh

To: Breath Alcohol Testing Operators
From:  Jeanna Walock, Program Administrator
Alcohol and Drug Testing Program
Date:  July 17, 2019

On July 24, the Ohio Department of Health Alcohol and Drug Testing (ADT) Program will begin making updates to the software for the Intoxilyzer 8000 instruments. Starting on the evening of July 24, the instrument control U (ctrl-U) function will be unavailable. Instead, the screen will display “No Connect Retry Y or N?” The control U function is planned to be available again on the evening of July 31. If the operator file needs updated during that time, please contact the ADT Program office at (614) 644-4609.

Starting August 7, the Program will begin deployment of new instrument firmware. It will take several months for the ADT Program staff to deploy the updated firmware to each connected instrument. Please make sure that your Intoxilyzer 8000 instruments are powered on and connected to LEADS. The Program will contact each agency at the time the firmware will be deployed to your instrument. Operators can continue to perform breath alcohol tests on the I-8000 instruments during this time.

The firmware update will remove the ALS 2255 and the Impaired Driver Report from the subject test report. Breath test operators will notice that the level of data entry needed will be reduced. The information previously collected to populate the ALS 2255 form will not be captured going forward. After the firmware update, the only forms that will print at the time of the test are the Subject Test Report, Subject Invalid Test Report, and Subject Test Refusal Report. The updated reports will include data that was previously displayed on the Breath Instrument Data Center. Please contact the BMV to order the most current version of the ALS 2255 form. After the updated firmware has been installed, operators will no longer see a progress bar or preliminary results on the instrument display. Please coach breath test subjects to provide a sample until the tone stops.

The Breath Instrument Data Center website will also be impacted by these changes. Between July 24 and August 7, the website will not display new records. The website will display new records captured after July 24 on the evening of August 7.

Please contact BADT@odh.ohio.gov or call (614) 644-4609 if you have questions.
