MTG Second Bachelors Status in MiSSG
- Effective with the 2024-25 FAFSA, students are no longer able to identify on the FAFSA if they are pursuing a second bachelor’s degree. This has impacted MTG eligibility status for students seeking a second bachelor’s degree in the MiSSG system. If a student has remaining check counts available and a second bachelor’s degree override is needed for MTG students, please contact Caroline Nurenberg at NurenbergC4@Michigan.gov.
MI Future Educator Application Cycle is Now Open for Academic Year 2025-26!

Students may now apply for the Academic Year 2025-26 MI Future Educator Fellowship and the MI Future Educator Stipend. Students can complete the applications in the MiSSG Student Portal.

Reminder Defaulted Student Loans Collection Starting May 5
- Since March 2020, collections on defaulted student loans had been paused. The U.S. Department of Education announced that it will start collecting on defaulted student loans beginning May 5. We have shared information to help support borrowers.
Reminder: Importance of UIC Creation and Updates for MiSSG
- MiLEAP and CEPI want to remind institutions of the importance of acquiring UICs for their students at the time of enrollment.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Looking Forward to Academic Year 2025-26
- The Michigan Achievement Scholarship has helped nearly 60,000 students this year, saving families more than $252 million in tuition costs statewide so far!

Guest Student Reminders
- Students who are identified as guest students at your institution may receive MI Student Aid program funds if they meet specific requirements.
- Tuition Incentive Program Clarification: TIP students may not use Phase I funds if they have previously received Phase II funds.

Michigan Achievement Scholarship Clarification: students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking or certification program at the home institution; however, courses outside the student’s degree or certificate program may count towards both the enrollment requirement and may be paid by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.

2025-26 State Aid Programs Policy Updates
- For the Academic Year 2025–26, important policy changes to State aid programs address repeat coursework, mandatory fees, and consortium agreements. These updates are designed to simplify the administration of aid and ensure consistent practices across all institutions. The revised policies will be included in the 2025–26 edition of the State Programs Procedures Manual.
Deadlines Approaching for MI Future Educator Fellowship

The following processing deadlines for Academic Year 2024-25 MI Future Educator Fellowship are coming soon. Students who want to receive a MI Fellowship award for Academic Year 2024-25 must apply by June 15, 2025. Institutions must complete applicants’ Confirmation of Eligibility by July 1, 2025. The applicant must sign the Commitment to Teach In Michigan Agreement by July 15, 2025.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship - Quarter 4 Special Process Instructions
- If the ‘Ready to Pay’ status for the initiation semester is not updated to ‘Paid’ during Quarters 1–3, a special process may be required in Quarter 4.
MiLEAP Office of Higher Education Financial Aid Advisory Group Interest Form

A Financial Aid Advisory Group is being formed. Financial aid professionals who are interested in joining to help shape policy and improve State financial aid access in Michigan, must complete the Interest Form by 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025.
