As we approach Academic Year 2025-26 we want to share informational reminders. Once the official 2025-26 budget is finalized, MI Student Aid will continue to communicate and offer collaborative opportunities to answer questions.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Clarification: Complete a 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): submitted, completed, and verified.
- Graduate from a high school in Michigan with a diploma or a certificate of completion or achieved a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after.
- Enroll full-time as defined by the eligible institution.
- Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.

Clarification: If the applicant is a dependent student, the first contributor on the FAFSA must also be a Michigan resident. If the applicant is an independent student, the applicant’s state and date of residency from the FAFSA is used to determine Michigan residency.
- Enroll at an eligible institution within 15 months of high school graduation or earning a high school equivalency certificate.
- Not be in default on a Federal student loan.
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or approved refugee.
- Meet the institution’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.
- Be an undergraduate student.
- Four-Year Public or Private Colleges and Universities only: Demonstrate financial need by having a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Renewal Requirements
- Complete the FAFSA annually.
- Continue to live in Michigan.
- Continue to enroll in college full time.
- Meet the institution’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy.
- Four-Year Public or Private Colleges and Universities only: Demonstrate financial need by having a Student Aid Index (SAI) of $30,000 or less.
15-Month and Enrollment Requirements
- Michigan Achievement Scholarship does not require continuous enrollment.
- Students are required to initiate within 15-Months of high school completion.
- Initiation is defined as a payment of $0.01 or greater or the certification of “No - Full-Time - exceeds COA.”

Clarification: Students who did not receive an award through Michigan Achievement Scholarship immediately after high school, may be eligible to receive an award in future years as long as the first award is within the 15-Month timeframe.
- Students may be eligible to receive the Michigan Achievement Scholarship for up to five consecutive years total, with no more than three years at a Michigan Community College and Tribal College.

Clarification: Students may float between eligible and ineligible during this five-year period.
