Guest Student Reminders
Due to a high number of inquiries regarding guest students, we would like to remind institutions of the guest student policy found on page 19 of the State Programs Procedures Manual.
Students who are identified as guest students at your institution may receive MI Student Aid program funds if they meet the following:
-
Have been a legal resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year, and
-
Credits earned at your institution will be transferred and applied to a certificate or degree at their home institution, and
-
They are currently enrolled in a degree-seeking or certification program at their home institution, and
-
The Guest Student Designation Form has been completed.
-
Students may not receive funds at two institutions at the same time.
Tuition Incentive Program Clarification
- TIP students may not use Phase I funds if they have previously received Phase II funds.
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Clarification
- Michigan Achievement Scholarship students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking or certification program at the home institution; however, courses outside the student’s degree or certificate program may count towards both the enrollment requirement and may be paid by the Michigan Achievement Scholarship. For students in this situation, Section 3 of the Guest Student Form will indicate, “No” to Credits earned by the student at the guest institution will be transferred and applied to a certificate or degree at the home institution.
