1. Spring term Free Entitlement actuals – things to do this week

The Online Provider Portal (OPP) is currently open for Spring term Free Entitlement (FE) actuals claims.

This week you should go in and check your data because the portal will not be re-opening for any period of time following the deadline.

  • Headcount day: Thursday 17 January 2019.
  • Final deadline for return: Wednesday 30 January 2019. Please note, we will be unable to process any claims which miss this deadline for children who are in attendance during Headcount week.

For further information and guidance please read the “Free Entitlement – additional information for providers” document on our webpage westsussex.gov.uk/ecsfreeentitlement and follow the guidance entitled “How to claim child-level funding” available here. The guidance includes how to claim Disability Access Fund (DAF), Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) and Extended FE for eligible 3 and 4 year olds.

Please note:

  • Claiming DAF – you must only select ‘Yes’ next to ‘Nominated for DAF’ if the signed Parent Declaration form shows the child is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
  • 30 hours Extended Entitlement codes – parents must have applied for their code before 31 December 2018 in order to claim Extended FE in Spring term 2019.
  • Remember, you can carry out an instant 30 hour code check using the ‘Online eligibility checker’ via the OPP (this will not save or submit your data to us), see our OPP help guide for further guidance: westsussex.gov.uk/ecsportal

If you have any queries please email free.entitlement@westsussex.gov.uk

4. Stay Warm and Well this Winter

Please promote this information to parents who can find out about eligibility and how to access the service in their area:

We are all more likely to feel the chill in winter, but the cold weather can increase the risk of serious health problems.  Pregnant women and young children under 5 are particularly vulnerable to the cold.

Keeping your home warm is essential to staying well.  A room temperature of 18-20°C is appropriate for most healthy adults, rooms in which infants sleep should be heated to between 16-20°C.

Energy bills can be a worry during winter, but there are a couple of things you can do:

  • Make sure you are on the best energy tariff – if you haven’t switched recently, you are probably paying more than you need to.
  • Check if you are entitled to the Warm Home Discount or other financial help

For more advice on keeping bills down visit www.westsussexenergy.co.uk

Your local council now has advisors on hand to help eligible households to stay well and warm. They can provide FREE help on energy tariff switching, reducing bills and home energy improvements.  Please promote this information to parents who can find out about eligibility and how to access the service in their area here www.westsussexenergy.co.uk/help-and-advice/home-energy-advisor-service/
