Mayor opens new primary school SEND unit
Last week, a brand-new SEND unit and playground at Radstock Primary School in Earley was officially opened by Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Carol Jewell.
The new specialist SEND unit is called The Lilypad and will provide 21 places for primary aged children with autism and associated additional needs.
It has three classrooms, two sensory rooms, two meeting rooms, a kitchen and toilets, including an accessible bathroom with shower and changing table.
Outside a brand-new playground has also been built with a canopy. Additional car parking spaces have also been provided.
Local support is available for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with special educational needs and disabilities and their families.
Last chance to apply for the Household Support Fund
Time is running out to apply for help through the Household Support Fund.
We're working with the Hardship Alliance to make sure families who need support can access this funding before the scheme closes at the end of March.
The Household Support Fund is funded by the UK Government and is designed to help residents who are struggling with the rising cost of living.
It provides short-term financial support for essentials such as food, energy and household costs.
Who can apply
- You live in Wokingham Borough
- You are experiencing financial pressure with essentials such as food, energy or household costs
- Your child receives means-tested free school meals
What to do
Evidence of your financial situation will be required so support reaches those who need it most.
Road under railway bridge about to reopen
We're about to move the closure points where we're upgrading the roundabout at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane in Wokingham.
On Monday (26 January), we'll be reopening Finchampstead Road immediately to the north of the junction, heading towards the Tesco roundabout.
At the same time, we'll be closing Finchampstead Road to motor traffic immediately to the south of the junction between Molly Millars Lane and Tangley Drive.
Contractors will work overnight this weekend to prepare for this final phase, which should run until mid-March. The roundabout will then reopen, but with about two weeks of overnight closures (8pm to 5am) for finishing works.
This is part of our South Wokingham Distributor Road project in partnership with Balfour Beatty - read more in our latest newsletter or subscribe for updates.
 Site sold to nursery provider
We’ve sold a site we own in Wokingham to a nursery provider.
We’ve agreed to sell the site in a multi-million pound deal and this will be reinvested into vital public services like care for adults and children including support for older people, disabled adults and children with special educational needs.
Closures coming for essential water pipe upgrades
They're carrying out essential upgrades to water pipes in the area, making sure they're able to serve new housing at the former Arborfield Garrison.
Access will be open to properties between the closure points and Thames Water's teams will be there to answer questions. They'll also put up a noticeboard.
Once this has finished, they'll be closing part of Barkham Road, to the west of Bearwood Road, to continue working towards Arborfield.
