Work continues on Heathlands Road reconstruction
Our work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road continues.
During the five-week closure of Heathlands Road, we are doing a full reconstruction of the road surface, alongside utility and pavement works (pictured above).
This means the road surface is being dug up and so it’s not possible to safely allow vehicles through the junction while the work is carried out.
Although the section of road affected is relatively short, this type of work has to be completed in stages over several weeks.
When the current phase ends in mid-February, the junction will return to three-way temporary lights for seven weeks.
The next phase of our roundabout project at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane is due to start on Monday 26 January. This will see vehicle movement restored under the railway bridge, with the closure moving to the south of the junction.
 Diversion route and alternatives
The eastern end of Heathlands Road is now closed about 50 metres west of the junction, with the rest of the road open as usual.
The official diversion is via Easthampstead Road, Old Wokingham Road, Nine Mile Ride and Heathlands Road, or the other way round, but there are alternatives.
If you’re approaching Wokingham town centre from the A329M (eastbound), you can turn off at Coppid Beech roundabout onto the A329 London Road, then use William Heelas Way and Waterloo Road to access Old Wokingham Road, Nine Mile Ride and/or Heathlands Road.
If you’re leaving Wokingham town centre via the one-way system, you can turn off Wiltshire Road onto the A329 London Road at the Ship Inn, then use William Heelas Way and Waterloo Road to access Old Wokingham Road, Nine Mile Ride and/or Heathlands Road.

Reminder of upcoming milestones
We are aiming to have the work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road completed by May.
We expect to have the new link road open around the same time and this will run from Easthampstead Road to the South Wokingham Distributor Road and join up with Waterloo Road.
Work is not starting further up Easthampstead Road until the roundabout project at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane is completed in April, as we previously communicated.
This will involve a 10-month closure between Star Lane and Heathlands Road. The Star Lane level crossing will remain open after the works are completed, but will be closed while works are taking place.
As part of our wider changes to the road network in this area, part of Easthampstead Road will be permanently closed off to form a cul-de-sac.
