Skills Bootcamps give people aged 19 plus the opportunity to build up sector specific skills through fully-funded and co-funded flexible courses of up to 16 weeks. After completing the training, participants will fast track to a guaranteed interview with a local employer.
The key objectives are to:
- support adults from diverse groups to retrain and;
- help employers to fill skills shortages

Working Well: Pioneer
Pioneer is a personalised support offer to support you into sustainable work through employment support, upskilling and training with continued support once you’re in-work. Working Well: Pioneer offers support for up to 15 months plus optional in-work support of up to 6 months.
Who is it for? If you’re currently unemployed and not currently required to search for work as part of Universal Credit or JSA, then Working Well: Pioneer could help you.
To be eligible for WHP, you must also:
- Have the right to reside and enter employment in England or Wales.
- Be of working age (18+).
- Not be on any other DWP contracted provision.
- Not have completed WHP previously.
- Not already have a job offer or be about to start work.
- Not be in any type of employment including zero hour contracts.
Specialist support is also available for specific groups.

Catch 22
Employability Programmes
There are various programmes on offer and in different locations to choose from nationwide. Participants must be facing at least one barrier to work and must not currently be in work or education. They should have a desire to work within the digital and technology industries. Details of how to refer into the programmes are on the link attached.
Catch22
The Digital Edge Programme 2 days a week for 4 weeks and is done completely remotely using Microsoft Teams.
The programme is funded by Microsoft and aims to help people between 18 and 45 into the Tech industry. After completing the programme you will then have access to 1 2 1 career coaching and in work support once they find employment.
Over the 4 week programme you will get vital employability skills training, insight into the digital and technology sector whilst doing practical activities and gain confidence in applying for digital apprenticeships or entry level IT roles, with the view of launching their career.
You should be:
- Interested in a digital and tech industry
- 18 to 45 years old
- Access to laptop/computer and headphones
- Based in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London
- Not in Education or Employment
- Have the right to work within the UK
- Have a basic level of IT Skills
The programme covers the different type of tech roles available in the industry, the different tech jargon terms, how to tailor a cover letter and CV to these specific positions and they even do group projects. Alongside their facilitators they do have guest speakers from Tech Apprenticeships providers, and Microsoft staff also speak to the group about the tech industry.

Each person who joins the service will have support from an Employment adviser for up to 12 weeks to support them to reach their employment goal which could be by;

- how to talk to your employer about their impairment and reasonable adjustments

Sonder Radio is a community radio station for the 50+ demographic in Greater Manchester. Founded in 2016, their key aims have been to promote wellbeing, reduce isolation and advocate digital inclusion. They achieve this by running various creative workshops and connecting people through the content made by the community at Sonder. They encourage people at all skill levels to take part in their workshops, as they are catered to help teach and guide every participant from the ground up. They pride themselves on not leaving anyone behind. Volunteer for the Together @ Home programme
At Together Dementia Support they really need volunteers for their Together @ Home programme. Volunteers are matched with a person living with dementia in Manchester, visiting their homes weekly or fortnightly to do activities and even take them out to the local café or park. It is much more personal than their groups-based volunteering and members form great relationships with the volunteer and vice-versa. They have an ever-growing waiting list of members desperate for new friendships and fun.
You don’t need to have had experience as you will have a training session with them to learn all about dementia and the health and safety of working with somebody with dementia on a 1 to 1 basis.

The courses they offer take around 30 to 60 hours in total to complete online. You will be given up to 12 weeks to complete your course. You will have tutor support throughout your learning journey. On completion you will be awarded a nationally recognised certificate from CACHE or NCFE.

Manchester Adult Education Opportunities with Manchester Adult Education vary. By volunteering with them you can help others to learn and develop their own skills.
