How education settings should prepare for and respond to terrorism and other major incidents.

This non-statutory guidance is for:

• security and incident leads
• all staff, including non-teaching staff

It applies to:

• all education settings and childcare providers
• all organisations and agencies that have functions relating to learners

The guidance:

• aims to improve security awareness
• helps staff and learners identify security vulnerabilities and suspicious activities
• sets out practical, low-costs steps to improve preparedness and response plans

The interactive e-learning resource will teach learners:

• how to identify security vulnerabilities and suspicious activity
• how to respond when there is an incident

This has been developed in collaboration with the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and sector partners.

The guidance 'Information sharing: advice for practitioners providing safeguarding services' has been updated to include more clarity on the use of consent and the legal frameworks needed to support the sharing of information.

The Ofsted guidance on inspecting registered early years and childcare providers under the education inspection framework has been updated on 5 April 2024.

Summary of changes below:

• Paragraph 3: clarification that, when applying the handbook, inspectors will take appropriate action to comply with Ofsted’s Equality Act duties.
• Paragraph 50: clarification regarding opportunities to provide information on and/or discuss potential equalities duties, including reasonable adjustments for individuals.
• Paragraphs 50, 68, 71 and 75: clarification regarding Ofsted’s pausing policy.
• Paragraph 157 to 158: clarification regarding updated arrangements for handling concerns and complaints in line with Ofsted’s new complaints process.
• Paragraph 160: clarification regarding retaining evidence bases.
• Paragraph 162: clarification about gathering additional evidence.
• Paragraph 164 to 166: clarification regarding updated arrangements for quality assurance in line with Ofsted’s new complaints process.

The Department for Education’s EYFS Profile on Foundation Years provides teachers with support to help them complete the EYFS Profile. It will be updated regularly throughout the 2023 to 2024 academic year.

Each update covers a new area of the Profile, focusing on topics the sector has asked for more information on.

The most recent update provides information on how to complete the EYFS Profile for children who remain in EYFS provision beyond age 5.
