Welcome to the final newsletter of the year!
It has been a busy year packed with learning opportunities. Our next edition in January 2024 will set out training plans for the year.
As you will all be aware, this time of year can be difficult for some of the people who use our services and our multi-agency colleagues.
Take care in the coming weeks and hopefully you will have some time for a bit of a break.
Merry Christmas when it comes. Laura Winter, Team Leader Protecting People

Reunification Practice Framework
This framework was developed by the NSPCC and is now being embedded within Angus Council Children and Families Services. This framework is an evidence-informed framework for return home practice. It was developed because of research findings about repeated findings of maltreatment and poor outcomes for children who returned home from being in local authority care.

Engaging with Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse
We know that in order to END violence against woman and girls, we need to work with those who cause harm. This means we need to have a clear understanding of the reasons behind these behaviours, we need to have the confidence, knowledge and skills to intervene and hold perpetrators of domestic abuse to account through relationship based practice.
We have developed a training session for the workforce which Protecting People Angus will run four times across 2024 (first session noted above).
|
Moving forward, we need more facilitators to co-run this session and we would love to hear from you. Full training and support will be offered. It is a great development opportunity and a rewarding session to run.
Please get in touch by emailing the Protecting People Angus mailbox - ProtectingPeopleAngus@angus.gov.uk

16 Days of Action Against Gender-based Violence 2023 There is still time to sign up!!! |
Employer Pledge Launch
Change of Date
Strathmore Rugby Club, Forfar
Join us to launch our new Employer Pledge.
Are you an organisation or business looking to become more gender-based violence (GBV) aware? The Employer Pledge is a transformative initiative where employers can commit to creating and implementing policies centred around gender-based violence awareness.
By taking this pledge, employers publicly commit to developing and enforcing policies that promote their awareness and support their employees should they face any type of gender-based violence. We would like organisations and retailers to adopt a culture that prioritises respect, equality, and empathy for anyone who may experience GBV.
The Employer Pledge is more than a symbolic gesture; it's a strategic commitment that aligns with the values of inclusivity, diversity, and social responsibility. By prioritising this commitment, organisations and businesses not only contribute to the eradication of gender-based violence but also elevate their reputation as a safe and respectful place to work in Angus.
This session is open to professionals and members of the public.

This is a public seminar exploring GBV and young people.
The Adult Protection Committee has established a short life working group to look at how we respond to hoarding cases on a multi-agency basis within Angus.
The group has begun to look at ‘where we are now’ before mapping out what the future vision looks like for multi-agency service provision. As a starting point a survey has been developed to gain an understanding of knowledge across the workforce and where gaps are in provision.
It would be appreciated if you could take time to complete the survey. (It should take no more than 5-10 minutes). The survey will be open until 5pm on Friday 15 December 2023.

Are you interested in learning more about psychostimulants? Specifically, the effects of cocaine when used in combination with alcohol or other substances. Due to the growing prevalence of psychostimulant use in Angus, everyone in the community must be aware of the potential impact so they can help themselves or others. If you're interested, please check out the poster and book on one of the available dates.
These sessions are open to anyone living or working in the Angus Area, including individuals using substances, family members, volunteers and staff.
I don't want to be the one to mention Christmas, but I will. The festive period is approaching fast, and we know it's a time when people consume more alcohol than usual. We know since Covid, we have seen a rise in health issues through alcohol. In Angus, we have a CONFIDENTIAL app to help reduce any substances. You can use it yourself or support a family member, friend, or someone you work with to use the Breaking Free Online resource. It can be used for any substance, not just alcohol, and can be accessed at any time, day or night. Anyone can sign up to use the app in Angus. We are also offering training for anyone who wants to learn more about the app, and dates will follow shortly.
