Join us on 4 June at 12:30pm for a free lunchtime webinar exploring postural care. Postural care is a non-invasive approach designed to support professionals and carers of people with complex needs. Effective postural support helps people to engage in activities they enjoy, develop better communication and prevent complex deformities. The latest editions of the Stop Look Care booklets have been released. One is for Stop Look Care - 2023.pdf for working age frail adults and the other is Stop Look Care for people with learning disabilities.
The aim is to support health and social care workers/carers to feel confident that they have reached the right level to provide the care they are giving.
The booklets can also be used as a reference guide for families and personal assistants to promote awareness of certain needs and encourage a referral if concerns are identified.
Help to spot the signs of deterioration in people with a learning disability using Stop Look Care. Stop Look Care 2024.
Train-the-Trainer Opportunity: Helping People Become More Active Workshop
Last month, we delivered the Helping People Become More Active workshop to care home staff across Sussex. We are now looking for care home staff or staff working in services funded by West Sussex County Council (WSCC) who would like to be trained to run this workshop themselves.
This "train-the-trainer" approach means that staff who complete the training will be able to deliver the workshop to others in their service.
Workshop Overview
- Takes 1.5 to 2 hours
- Designed to help staff encourage older adults to move more
- Covers:
- Why physical activity is important
- Types of activity and national guidelines
- Practical ideas and overcoming common barriers
- Having positive conversations about staying active
- Where to signpost people for help or resources
What You Need to Know
-
It’s free – there’s no cost to be trained or to deliver the workshop
- Training can be slightly tailored for different roles (e.g. care staff, day centre staff, social workers, support staff for learning disabilities)
- In future, we may create ‘physical activity champions’ across services – but for now, we’re just looking for anyone interested in being trained
Please contact Ross on the below email rjoannides@activesussex.org to express an interest.
