1. Mandatory Early
Years Census 2018 – opens 5 February 2018 (FE Providers Only)
The Early Years Census form will
be available for you to complete via the Online
Provider Portal (OPP) from Monday 5 February
2018.
As you may know, every year we carry out the Early Years Census for the Department
for Education (DfE). This is a mandatory
return. The census is important because it is used to calculate the funding West
Sussex County Council receives for free early education. If we do not capture
your claims now, we may not have the funding later on. Headcount day was 18
January 2018.
We need to collect
child-level and setting-level information from you to submit to the DfE. The child-level
information should now have been collected, like we do every term, via your
actuals. The deadline has now passed, however you will have the opportunity to
check your claim via the OPP between 14-16 February 2018. Please make sure
that you have entered all funded children who
were present during headcount day only
(18 January) for the 2018 Spring term when it re-opens on 14 February.
Please refer to the
attached documents “Important Information – Census 2018” for further
information and guidance on how to submit your Early Years Census Form.
The deadline for
return of your Early Years Census Form is 14 February 2018. Future FE payments may be at risk
if you do not complete your Census return by this deadline.

2. Treasury Committee - Childcare Inquiry
The Governmental Treasury Committee has launched a new inquiry into
childcare policy and its influence on the economy.
The Committee will examine the role high quality, accessible, flexible and
affordable childcare can play in supporting labour productivity.
It will consider the overall package of Government initiatives that aim to
make childcare affordable, how the individual initiatives interact with each
other and their effectiveness, and whether they have delivered an adequate
provision of affordable childcare that facilitates parental employment.
