Special Broadcast

1. Important information about Extended Free Entitlement Spring code (January 2018) deadlines

Extended deadline for parents receiving codes

Due to the ongoing technical difficulties parents are facing, West Sussex County Council will fund 30 hours places for spring term for any parent who has a 30 hours code dated 11 January or earlier.

Any child taking up a 30 hours place in the spring term must have had their code checked by the time of the annual census in order for them to be funded by the DfE. Please make sure you check codes on this system as soon as possible.

Please remember that this is an exceptional circumstance and it should not be assumed that this extension would be repeated for Summer term. The deadline for Summer term codes is  31 March 2018.

Temporary Codes

As of 8 December, HMRC have started issuing temporary codes for parents with ongoing technical difficulties applying or reconfirming through the childcare service. We encourage you to advise parents who contact you with ongoing technical difficulties to contact the Childcare Service Helpline to check the status of their application. Parents will be offered a temporary code if their technical difficulty has not yet been resolved. HMRC will attempt to provide the temporary code verbally over the phone, once generated, and the code will also be issued by post. Parents calling the Childcare Service Helpline who have missed their call, will be asked to advise their provider that they are awaiting their letter in the post. Please be assured the validity start date is the date HMRC generated the temporary code, not the date the parent receives their letter.

If you have any questions regarding this please email free.entitlement@westsussex.gov.uk.
