Route into town to close from next week
From next Monday (13 April), Easthampstead Road will be shutting as part of the ongoing construction of the South Wokingham Distributor Road.
The road will close between Star Lane level crossing and just north of Heathlands Road (see diagram) with a diversion for vehicles and pedestrians.
Businesses including Holme Grange Craft Village will be open as usual and accessible from the south, as will any properties south of the level crossing.
The road will stay closed until early next year, when main work on the distributor road finishes, and the level crossing will reopen at this point.
However, the final layout includes a new cul-de-sac on Easthampstead Road with a new link road for through traffic.
The long-term closure of Easthampstead Road will follow the reopening of the junction with Heathlands Road, which is expected on Saturday 11 April.
This junction has been closed for four weeks for realignment works.

 Because carers need care too
Caring often happens quietly. You might keep an eye on a parent, help a partner manage their health or support a child who needs a little more from you.
Alongside our partners, there are a series of events around Wokingham Borough on 15 April as part of Carers Active Day. These include:
These events offer carers a chance to take time for themselves and connect with others. If you're a carer, we can help you stay active year-round, through our discounted leisure centre memberships in partnership with Places Leisure.
Other support options for carers:

Community railway artwork wows awards judges
A group of residents who created a community artwork (see the finished design) for Wokingham station have won an award.
The participants drew colourful designs on sections of toy wooden railway track. They arranged them on a big board, with other images and logos, to mark the 200th anniversary of Britain's railways.
It was overseen by artist Jo Werrett, of social care provider Optalis, with input from members of the CLASP learning disability group. You can see the finished artwork on display in the station ticket office.
Last chance: tell us how you stay active
We’re working to make it easier for residents to be active across Wokingham Borough.
More than 500 of you have already taken part, helping us understand everyday habits and the barriers to staying active.
Your responses will help us identify the best strategy to make being active more accessible. Tell us:
-
How active you are
-
What you do to stay active
-
What stops you being active?
Let us know before our survey closes this Sunday (12 April).
