Workshops and artwork for Forest of Imagination
The line-up of events and art being showcased at Wokingham Borough Forest of Imagination has been revealed.
Parts of Dinton Pastures Country Park are being transformed for the event, which is open to local schools on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May with a showcase weekend for all on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May.
The new Forest Shelter outdoor classroom and community facility (pictured) is currently being installed and will remain a legacy of the event at the country park in the years ahead.
Artists are finalising their installations including colourful Biodiversity Totems, topped with local creatures, and giant insect antennae, all inspired by Dinton’s biodiverse inhabitants, as well as Andrew Amondson’s Walking With prompts amongst a host of creative experiences.
View the current schedule of workshops for the weekend on the Forest of Imagination website, as well as a map of what you’ll find.
Some of the workshops will need to be booked in advance. We’ll have more information on this next week.
Join us for job fair on Monday
Meet prospective employers at a free job fair on Monday (12 May) at the Bradbury Centre in Wokingham.
We have organised the event jointly with the Department for Work and Pensions, giving people the opportunity to speak with employers from a range of different sectors from 10am to 2pm.
Empoloers from the construction, care, hospitality, local government, the film industry and more will be there. Attendees will be able to access information on training and apprenticeships, as well as help with writing a CV and searching for jobs.
Most of the jobs are with local companies and organisations and do not require extensive travel.
Several employment support organisations will be providing tailored career advice or referring residents to the best places for job-related information.
For a full list of the employers and support services that will be attending, visit the event page.
Speed limit reduction to support walking and cycling
We've reduced the speed limit to 30mph on several roads to make them safer.
At a meeting this month, our executive member for active travel, transport and highways agreed proposals for lower limits on:
- parts of the A329 Reading Road, Wokingham town and Winnersh
- Hollow Lane, Shinfield
- the A327 Arborfield Road, Shinfield
- Bearwood Road, Barkham
- the A327 Reading Road, New Mill Lane and Park Lane, Finchampstead
We heard lots of support for this, and we agree that slower speeds improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. This is key to promoting sustainable alternatives to driving, both for people's health and to address the climate emergency.
Other recent decisions include new stopping restrictions on several roads, including those near Westende Junior School in Wokingham.
We deal with a very high number of requests where people have road safety concerns, and while we base decisions on safety alone we can’t always make changes. Check our live list to see current requests and how they're progressing.
