 Overnight closures to allow resurfacing
We're closing the A329(M) overnight between Winnersh Triangle and Coppid Beech roundabout from Monday (12 May) until the morning of Saturday 24 May.
This is to allow resurfacing works, with a diversion in place via the North Wokingham Distributor Road and A329 Reading Road. See more on our interactive map.
The closures will take place from 7pm each day until 6am the following morning, with traffic flowing as usual during the daytime.
The southbound lane only will be open on the night of Friday, 23 May.
Keeping your journey running smoothly
These works are part of our annual maintenance programme to replace or improve roads and footways that are reaching the end of their useful life.
We invest millions in network improvements every year using a range of methods, depending on which is most suitable in each instance.
Sometimes a full resurfacing is appropriate and sometimes we can extend the life of a carriageway with treatments like surface dressing or sealing.
 New footpath installation nearing completion
Our partners at Volker Highways are well on their way to completing a new footpath along the A4 New Bath Road near Charvil and Wargrave.
They're replacing a 1km stretch along this busy road, which was worn and narrow in places, with a wider and more level surface that will make it more accessible.
There's lots more taking place across the borough at the moment, and you can track the progress of this year's programme on our new live list.
Don't forget there'll be partial closures at the junction of Molly Millars Lane and Finchampstead Road in Wokingham this weekend (10 and 11 May) and next weekend for supporting works on the South Wokingham Distributor Road.
More than 2,000 children learn to ride safely
Over the past year, our training provider Avanti Cycling has provided Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training to 1,918 children in Years 5 and 6.
These levels help youngsters to feel more confident and in control of their bike before they learn to cycle on quiet roads and identify possible hazards.
Avanti also smashed their target by providing Level 3 training to a further 237 children, teaching them to tackle faster roads with more complex junctions.
On top of that, 130 children attended Bikeability Learn to Ride sessions to start their cycling journey and 182 children, mostly Year 4, attended Bikeability Level 1 training, teaching them the skills needed to progress to Level 3.
This is all funded by the Bikeability Trust and Active Travel England as part of our efforts to get more children cycling safely to secondary schools.
Schools rank nationally for greener travel
Ten primary schools took part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel including All Saints Primary School, Westende Junior School, Wescott Infant School, Hawthorns Primary School and Floreat Montague Park Primary School, all in Wokingham town.
Westende Junior School came 250th on the national leaderboard (small primary schools) while Hawthorns Primary School came 245th (large primary schools).
Also taking part were Loddon and Hillside primary schools in Earley, Highwood Primary School in Woodley, Nine Mile Ride Primary School in Finchampstead and Oaklands Junior School in Crowthorne.
Our My Journey Wokingham team do loads to get people of all ages walking, cycling and taking public transport more, from education and training to fun community games and securing new infrastructure. They're supporting Love to Ride's Bike Month Challenge in May, which is offering lots of prizes!
Reducing the risk of unnecessary parking fines
The app we use to collect payments at our off-street car parks has improved how it collects your details.
RingGo's new Vehicle Validation Service checks your number plate the first time you register, which reduces the risk of you mistyping it in future.
This can lead to a penalty charge notice being issued, which we can only consider overturning if you make a formal appeal.
We're pleased with this simple change, which is based on feedback from motorists and councils, as it can reduce frustration for everyone involved.
You can find out more about our car parks across the borough using our form or the RingGo interactive map.
Park and Ride discount still in force
Don't forget: fares at the Winnersh Triangle, Thames Valley and Mereoak park and ride sites are still £1 return for a limited time.
This includes the parking charge at Winnersh Triangle and Mereoak, though not at Thames Valley. This discount is kindly funded by Reading Borough Council.
Date confirmed for electric vehicle event
To support uptake of electric vehicles (EVs), we're helping to organise an event at Winnersh Triangle Business Park on Friday, 11 July between 10am and 2pm.
Guests can test drive EVs and hear from experts like the Energy Saving Trust about the grants and tax benefits that EVs and related infrastructure can bring.
They can also network with specialist suppliers and installers. The event is mostly focused on Berkshire businesses but residents can attend.
The event will be organised in partnership with Let's Experience Electric and Reading, Bracknell Forest, Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough and West Berkshire councils.
It will support our Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy, which we approved earlier this year to help fill gaps in commercial provision, mostly with Government funding.
