Sheffield University Management School

Young People GM Flyer

The Sheffield University management school are conducting a project named “The Transitions of Young Workers in the UK Labour Market: Consequences for Careers, Earnings, Health, and Wellbeing” (ESRC-funded).

This project is supported by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), Greater Manchester Mayoral Combined Authority (GMCA), the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD). The research aims to explore the transitions of younger workers (who do not attend university) within the UK labour market, focusing on the barriers that might hinder their career progress. The ultimate goal is to improve employment outcomes for young people and support the employers who recruit them. They are currently seeking participants, including: Young people aged 18 to 30 who have not undertaken a traditional university degree (excluding degree apprenticeships).

MadLab's

Shift Click 2025: Free coding courses

Shift Click is MadLab's FREE tech learning programme for Greater Manchester residents aged 18 to 30. Beginners’ courses are six weeks long, and aimed at anyone who is unemployed or underemployed, and not in full-time education. Since 2020, MadLab has supported over 300 young people into high quality jobs, including the BBC, Auto Trader, Talk Talk, Barclay’s and Co-op Digital. The next course starts in February 2025, and is supported by the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and the DCMS. Partners include UCL’s Institute of Education and Stockport Council.

Placed Academy Studio

Placed Academy Studio Programme

Programme date: Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 February in Manchester

PLACED Academy is an award-winning, free-to-access educational programme about the built environment for young people across the Northwest. The PLACED Academy aims to empower young people to shape the places we live, work, and spend time.
PLACED Academy will be running two programmes for young people in years 7, 8 and 9 in the February Half Term, one in Liverpool and one in Manchester. These programmes will be delivered over 2-days, giving participants a taste of the PLACED Academy and the wider sector. Learners will learn about careers in the built environment and opportunities, develop skills in design, communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, presenting and grow in confidence.

Please remember you can only apply if you are currently 11 to 14 years old.

Reform Radio

Skills Bootcamp: Video Podcast Production
Podcasting Course
The Freelancer's Blueprint 

Reform Radio is offering a range of courses from November right through to January 2025. These programmes will involve responding to real creative briefs and producing a piece of content from development, through pitching and production, to post production and showcase. Learners will learn how to develop and script a podcast, create relevant and interesting content, learn the ins and outs of audio production, social media and creative writing. On the freelancer course learners will benefit from from networking to funding to filing taxes.

To be eligible for these courses learners have to be aged above 19 and have a Manchester postcode and be unemployed or working up to 16 hours or less, unemployed and no n full time education.

Skills Bootcamp- Covert Surveillance Training

This Skills Bootcamp is aimed at individuals who are looking to become qualified to obtain a full Close Protection SIA licence and undertake Covert Surveillance and Close Protection roles. This is an 18-day course and 21 days in total if you require the 3-day First Aid qualification before Close Protection training starts, which is mandatory to have. Learners will need to ensure they attend every session.

By undertaking this qualification, you will meet the requirements to be deployed within Close Protection roles undertaking activities under the terms of the Private Security Act (2001) and further expand your knowledge to work in Covert Surveillance. Candidates who obtain this qualification can also operate as Door Supervisors under the Private Security Act (2001).

Skills Bootcamp – Event Safety Future Leaders
Course start date: 16 December 2024 – 14 January 2025 from 10:00am until 1:00pm

The Event Safety Future Leaders Skills Bootcamp is tailored for those aiming to secure supervisory or managerial roles in event safety. Upon successful completion, you’ll possess the qualifications to excel in event safety management, ensuring the well-being of attendees and staff. You will enhance your skills in planning, coordinating, and delivering safe events in line with industry regulations and best practices. This qualification equips you to oversee event safety teams, manage risk, and respond to emergencies. It also opens doors to careers in event security and management. This is a Level 3 Certificate in Spectator Safety Supervision course that will be rolled out over 8 weeks with a mixture of online sessions and a work placement from week 3 to week 8.

Mentoring Through Sport

This is a programme for young people not in education, employment or training. This will enable young people to improve their fitness through boxing and other forms of sports, whilst also improving their employability skills. This is delivered in most North Manchester gyms.

Community Revival

Award in Education and Training Level 3
Certificate in Digital Promotion for Business Level 2
Diploma in Counselling Skills Level 3

Start Dates: January and April although learners may be able to join a class at other times.

These are free courses that are being offered by Community Revival to help learners improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, business and digital promotion skills. 

No formal entry requirements but learners may find it useful if they already have a Level 2 qualification. Learners must possess English language skills appropriate for the course. A full initial assessment will be carried out at the start of the course to identify any needs learners may have.

Dream Big Sports are offering a three day programme specifically designed to support NEET individuals aged 16 to 18. The programme core focus is “Community Sport and Leadership Skills” with the following workshops included:

Eligibility criteria:
Individuals should be Identified as being Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) at the time of enrolment. Leaners should be UK nationals or have the right to live and work in the UK without any immigration restrictions. They should live and/or work within Greater Manchester (specifically within Manchester City Council wards).
They should hold a National Insurance Number and have access to their Unique Learner Number (ULN).

• Aged 16 to 18 years old
•Individuals aged 15 to 16 can be enrolled if they are identified as being suitable for a “NEET prevention” programme due to being at risk of being NEET (participant must be in Year 11 of school as minimum).
• Individuals aged 18 to 21 can be enrolled if they are care experienced e.g. a care leaver.
•Individuals aged 18 to 25 can be enrolled if they are identified as having SEND or have an EHCP.

Pure Innovations

Pure Innovations is a charity providing support services to enable people with a disability, learning difficulty, autism or mental health condition to lead fulfilled lives. They currently offer the following two programmes:

Our Future

The Our Future programme is designed to help people with learning disabilities and/or autism develop important life skills. It is a 10 week group workshop with a maximum of 6 per group covering:

• Self-development
• Community
• Mental and physical wellbeing
• Digital skills
• Healthy relationships and sexual health
• Money and budgeting
• Pre-employment with a focus on voluntary work/work experience or moving onto supported employment
• Safe travel and route planning
• CV building and interview techniques

The course is very person centred for each individual, which helps them to reach a goal of their choice. They have guest speakers from the NHS, Citizens Advice, local workshops, volunteering groups and more depending on the groups interests. They also visit employers and have tours around different industries who offer both voluntary and paid work and they often do group voluntary days or activities.

If anyone is not comfortable in a group setting, they do offer this on a 1-1, focusing on an area of your choice.

Our Manchester

The Our Manchester programme is designed to help and support people with learning disabilities and/or autism into paid employment including:

• A dedicated employment officer
• A vocational profile created with an Action Plan to meet goals
• CV creation and interview preparation and support
• Job identification and application support
• Negotiation with employer’s and job shaping
• Travel training
• Job coaching
• Ongoing in and out of work reviews, monitoring and support

They help with finding work, speaking to the employer, making reasonable adjustments and support through the entire process. This is person centred so help is given as much or as little as needed, this can be alongside them during the interview and working interviews as well as working alongside the client while learning the job role. Once the client is comfortable in the role, they fade out gradually into the background until they are supporting remotely when needed.

Mind Games Flyer

Sessions are on every Tuesday from 12 pm until 2pm until February 2025

They are inviting individuals who are not in education or training to join them on their MIND GAMES sessions. These will run every Tuesday afternoon and skills that will be learnt include coding, story writing, sound design and many more. Learners will hear from industry creatives and get tips, careers advice and their lived experiences. There video games learners can play. Lunch and travel is provided.

Digital Youth Hub

Are you aged 18 to 25, live in Greater Manchester and want to develop your creative and digital skills?

Then sign up to the Digital Youth Hub today! It offers an initial course of online workshops to equip you with the key skills to help you find employment and gives you access to their ‘Opportunities Hub’, an up-to-date resource listing training and jobs across Greater Manchester.

You will also be able to take part in live workshops, masterclasses and skills development sessions, build your digital CV and have one to one sessions with a talent manager to help you with the next stage of your career.

Youth Elevate

Youth Elevate is a 3-month programme of bespoke support for 16 to 24-year-olds who are not in education, employment or full- time training who have been facing multiple barriers. These could include exclusion from school and mental health issues. ​​Through 1-2-1 support with a Youth coach, the project will build confidence, encourage engagement, remove barriers, upskill, and bring participants closer to employment through life skills, employability sessions, work experience placements, and mentoring. ​

Street League

Street League is a national charity that supports young people ages 16 to 30 into Employment, Education and Training. We utilise sport, primarily but not restricted to football as a way to engage with young people and to add variety to our provision. There are three main ways we support young people depending on where they are in their journey and the level of support that is appropriate, Job Club, Street Sports and Academy.

Street League Skills Hub 

New programme specifically designed to be a short, intensive employability support for those who are looking to join the labour market within the next 2 months. All participants must be ages 16to 29, not in Education, Employment or Training.

TEAM programme

If you’re aged 16 to 25, not in employment or education the Prince’s Trust Team programme is for you. Team will boost your confidence, develop your skills and enable you to progress onto further study or a career. Delivered face to face in the classroom and out in the local community, you’ll have the chance to:

• Take on a local community project and make a positive difference
• Take part in an action packed residential
• Get 2 weeks work experience
• Develop your interview skills and build an impressive CV
• Boost your confidence ready for taking the next step

The WOW Show

The WOW Show is a 30 minute fast moving interactive magazine show aimed at creating real life encounters which give young people fresh perspectives on the world of work.

Their teams have been filming around the country hearing directly from apprentices and trainees about the fascinating and varied opportunities in the construction sector.

We Love MCR Charity 

Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund

We Love MCR's Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund is unique. It supports ambitious 15 to 22 year olds experiencing financial disadvantage to achieve their potential by funding vital equipment, training and resources to enable them take their next steps to success in Work, Qualifications or Entrepreneurship, via grants of up to £5,000. 

Basic Criteria for applicants:

• Aged 15 to 22 (or up to 25 with lived experience of homelessness) 

• Need to live in Manchester City Council boundaries (exemptions apply for Manchester's LAC)

• Must have a clear and realistic ambition around employment, education, training or entrepreneurship.  

• Must demonstrate inability to access funds themselves due to personal/family circumstances

Working Well: Support to Succeed

Working Well: Support to Succeed helps you to overcome barriers which may prevent you from gaining work or pursuing your ambitions. The programme will help to boost your confidence and support you in achieving your goals.

Support to Succeed offers:

• Tailored one-to-one support with a dedicated Key Worker
• A range of available services including individual counselling, physiotherapy, debt advice
• Participation in activities to reduce social isolation such as gardening, sports and group sessions
• Support to progress into further learning, work experience, apprenticeships or employment (where this is right for the individual)
• A dedicated offer and Key Worker for people aged 50+

Benefits of the programme:

• Gain confidence as they support you every step of the way.
• Access specialist services to help with barriers like childcare or transport.
• Potential to increase your income once in a job.
• Improve skills and open doors to new opportunities.

Eligibility:

• Be a resident of Greater Manchester.
• Be aged 19 or over
• Not currently be on a DWP / GMCA employment support programme, or due to be referred to one of these programmes
• Must not be within one of the DWP intensive work search groups (Jobseekers Allowance and Universal Credit Intensive Work Search Regime)

Young Identity

Trustee Role pack

Young Identity is always looking for new trustees to join their diverse board, currently made up of an economist, lawyer, psychologist, education specialist, counsellor, young people’s arts producer, community engagement manager and creative business development expert. Their board brings a wealth of knowledge, both specialist and general, as well as invaluable perspectives and lived experience ranging from the local, national and international.

Please read their trustee role pack and submit your CV and a cover letter of no more than 500 words, telling them why you want to be a Trustee at Young Identity to enquiries@youngidentity.org. If you prefer, you can send a video of up to 2 minutes instead of the accompanying letter.

Their Steering Group is made up of active participants who provide advice and support to ensure that their projects are correctly targeted and reflect the desires and needs of their youth-led organisation. As the name suggests, a Steering Group helps to steer a project from start to completion. It is important to them that they include their young people in the projects being developed, as their views help ensure that their programme of activities reflects their writing community.

If you are interested in becoming a member of their Steering Group you must already be a Young Identity member, aged between 13 to 25. Please read the outline attached and fill out the ‘Register Interest’ form. Once registered, you will be notified of their next Steering Group Meeting, it will be your introduction to the role, training and more.

Young Producers

Their young producers have the opportunity to support curating, planning and managing Young Identity's events and community showcase performances over the next 3 years. They offer training opportunities through workshops led by Young Identity's producers' team, alumni producers and creative industry professionals, where you will gain tips and advice from lived experience producers; including learning how to organise and programme events and develop financial skills and budget management. Their Young Producers help them produce their flagship event One Mic Stand and volunteer as staff liaisons, runners, programmers and more.

If you are interested in becoming a Young Producer you must already be a Young Identity member, aged between 13 to 25. Please read the outline attached and fill out the ‘Register Interest’ form. Once registered, you will be notified of their next Young Producers meeting, it will be your introduction to the role, training and more.

Facilitators

Training Opportunity for Facilitator Role

Experienced, empathetic and confident in their craft, their Young Identity members can access facilitator training, opening themselves up to opportunities for connection and engagement with other budding young writers in the community. At Young Identity they offer training opportunities through their weekly workshop delivery; shadowing lead facilitators, supporting lessons, mentoring and evaluations, with access to personalised support from their Artistic Director Shirley May.

Please Note: This training will not guarantee a permanent facilitation role with Young Identity, however, you will be eligible to be considered for facilitation roles if this training is completed.
