A warm hello to all of our subscribers, old and new! We have now reached over 600 on the list for the newsletter, which is awesome, but we also know that’s just the tip of the multiagency workforce iceberg, so please keep sharing the link to the newsletter across your own networks and encourage colleagues to sign-up.
November is a big month for us with the start of 16 Days of Action on 25 November – we shared a special edition of the newsletter on 22 October which gave an overview of the various events that we’ll be putting on in Angus across the 16 Day period and we hope to see you there!
I hope you enjoy this edition, which is again, packed with lots of great development information and opportunities. If you have any feedback on the newsletter, please drop us a line at Protecting People Angus, we’d love to hear from you.

My name is Heather MacMaster and I am the Citizen Advocacy Project Manager at Angus Independent Advocacy. I started out as a Development Worker in 2012, before taking on a management role in 2017. As well as managing the Citizen Advocacy project and team, I have been involved in wider learning and development across the organisation. I completed a Post Graduate Degree in Community Learning & Development in 2017 and feel strongly that learning should be seen as a lifelong pursuit; both in our personal and professional lives.
I joined the group in June 2021 following my return from maternity leave, so I am still getting to grips with its work and priorities. I am looking forward to being able to contribute more with my CLD and Advocacy experience as we move forward.
I can be contacted on heather@angusindadvocacy.org

It is with some sadness (for us anyway!) that Wendy Hinnie, Workforce Learning and Development Officer (Child and Adult Protection Committees) is retiring in December.
Wendy has been in post since 2015 and will be a great loss to the Protecting People Team and to the Committees. Wendy’s ability to completely engage a room is something that many of us aspire to and she will be greatly missed.
I am sure we would all like to wish Wendy well in her retirement 😊

National Missing Persons Framework -
Good Practice Conference (Online)
Thursday 2 December 2021 9.30am – 1.30pm
Please join Missing People, the only charity in the UK specialising in providing guidance and support to missing people and their families, for our online conference in Scotland, held in partnership with Police Scotland and Scottish Government. Since July 2019, Missing People have been delivering a programme of consultancy, training and good practice sharing to support Scottish Government's work to ensure that The National Missing Persons Framework for Scotland is implemented effectively across local areas. We have been working with partners across Scotland to identify existing good practice of local professionals in the support of missing adults, children, and their families. This conference will showcase elements of this practice from local areas, in line with The Framework.
The aims of the conference are to:
• Increase understanding of good and innovative practice for reducing harm related to missing • Provide an opportunity for professionals to discuss the benefits and challenges of multi-agency responses to missing people and their families • Address current issues and trends relating to missing across Scotland.
This online conference will include speakers from across Scotland, and presentations from our divisional partners to discuss and exhibit a variety of good and innovative practice around missing. Speakers will also include: Ash Denham MSP - Scottish Government, Police Scotland’s National Missing Persons Unit, Missing People and Alzheimer Scotland.
This conference is free to attend and has been funded by the Scottish Government.

Family Impact Statement in Case Review
Last month we shared ‘What is an Initial Case Review (ICR) and a Significant Case Review (SCR)’
It is important that families within cases that are being reviewed have the opportunity to share their views and contribute to the process. ‘Anne’ is a case from England but provides a powerful impact statement from family members. A main thinking point from their statement is, “At some point in history, there needs to be one final review, the one that really gets the point across, where afterwards these mistakes stop happening. Someone's death under these circumstances will be the last death. I, unfortunately, have absolutely zero belief that my mother's death is that death. So....that's really the point I want to hammer home. I really, really, really want to emphasise taking this seriously and drilling this into people’s heads.”
