Good morning,
Access to reliable internet, technology, and digital skills has become essential for success in today's world. Whether applying for a job, accessing healthcare, completing schoolwork, starting a business, or utilizing with government services- being connected matters.
Recognizing this need, the Pima County Board of Supervisors supported the Connect Pima Digital Inclusion & Infrastructure Action Plan and subsequent investments that led to the creation of the Office of Digital Inclusion in 2023. Since then, the Board has continued to prioritize digital equity through broadband expansion, technology access programs, and digital skills training designed to ensure all residents can participate fully in our modern economy.
Led by Director Michelle Simon, the Office of Digital Inclusion focuses on expanding affordable internet access, increasing access to devices, and helping residents develop the digital skills needed for work, education, healthcare, and everyday life. Through initiatives such as the Digital Navigator Program, residents can receive one-on-one assistance connecting to internet services, learning new technology skills, accessing online resources, and overcoming barriers to digital participation.
The Board of Supervisors has also recognized digital inclusion as an important component of Pima County's Prosperity Initiative. By investing in these efforts, Pima County is helping ensure that opportunity reaches residents in every corner of our community.
Another major milestone was the Board's support of the Middle Mile Broadband Project, a $30.3 million federal investment that will strengthen broadband infrastructure throughout Pima County and help improve internet connectivity for residents, businesses, and communities for years to come.
