Welcome to latest edition of the I-405/SR 167 Program newsletter, where we provide regular updates about impactful construction along the corridor.
People should prepare for closures on the north end of the I-405 corridor in Kirkland and Bothell this week. In this issue, you’ll find the latest closure information, a summary of work completed, and a preview of what’s coming next so you can “know before you go.”

This weekend, the I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange in Kirkland will close for crews to complete electrical installation and prepare for paving, as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project.
Crews will also conduct lane reductions and rolling slowdowns on southbound I-405 on Friday night to shift traffic and create a work zone, as part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project.
Travelers are advised of additional closures on I-90 and SR 520 happening this week and a full closure of the I-5 express lanes.
Other WSDOT work to be aware of: Overnight lane and ramp closures on I-405 for maintenance Sept. 8-10
Separate from our program’s work, overnight lane and ramp closures along multiple state highways in King County will take place Sept. 8-10, for crack sealing and pavement repair. The list of closures can be found in this travel advisory and the WSDOT real-time travel map.
This is part of a regional pavement repair project addressing more than 70 locations in King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties. These roadway improvements extend the life of the roadway and improve the driving surface.
I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange closure in Kirkland, Sept. 11-14
The northbound and southbound I-405 on- and off-ramps (Exit 18) in Kirkland will close starting as early as 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
Northeast 85th Street will also close between Sixth Street to 120th Avenue Northeast. Detours will be in place.

Overnight lane reductions rolling slowdowns on southbound I-405 in Bothell, Sept. 11-12
Up to three lanes of southbound I-405 will close between SR 522 and Northeast 160th Street from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. The eastbound and westbound SR 522 ramps to southbound I-405 will also close during this time.
Crews will conduct rolling slowdowns during the lane reductions where they will stop traffic for up to 15 minutes at a time between 11:59 p.m. and 4 a.m.

This schedule is subject to change due to the nature of construction. Weather, traffic conditions, equipment availability, and other factors can affect scheduled work.

Recent accomplishments
All-hands-on-deck on northbound I-405 in Bothell
Crews started pouring fresh concrete for the new northbound I-405 bridge deck in Bothell, as part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project. Constructing a new northbound I-405 bridge deck at the I-405/SR 522 interchange will allow crews to add an express toll lane (ETL) in each direction and direct access ramps from SR 522 to the ETLs.
 Crews poured the deck for a new section of northbound I-405 in Bothell the week of Aug. 31, 2026.
