1. 2019 Early Years Conference – Developing Emotional Health and Wellbeing in the Early Years

Come and join us at the 2019 Early Years Conference – ‘Developing Emotional Health and Wellbeing in the Early Years’ on Friday 15 March 2019.

We are delighted to welcome Dr Sam Wass from Channel 4’s ‘Secret Life of 4, 5 and 6 year olds’ to West Sussex as this years keynote speaker.

2. ‘EpiPen’ and ‘EpiPen Junior’ shortage

During the current shortage of auto-injectors to treat anaphylaxis, some individuals may switch from their usual brands/devices to an alternative. Operating instructions may differ between brands of adrenaline auto-injectors. Ensure that you are familiar with the different devices in use and how to administer them.

See here for further information from the Dept of Health & Social Care, and Guidance on how to use different devices. Contact your local Healthy Child Programme team and ask to speak to a school nurse if you have any queries.


3. Makaton Foundation Workshop for Professionals

(Stage 1 – 4 and Additional Vocabulary)

This is a TWO FULL DAY course and will take place over two weeks

  • Date: 16 and 23 November 2018
  • Time: 9.00 am – 4.00pm
  • Venue: Bognor Regis Nursery School, 85 Victoria Drive, Bognor Regis, West Sussex, PO21 2TB
  • Cost: £185 which includes materials but lunch is not included.
  • Tutor: Noriko Bayes (SSC nursery nurse at BRNS and Makaton Regional Tutor)
  • Entry criteria: Participants need to have an understanding of early communication skills but no signing experience/knowledge required.

4. Early Years Initial Teacher Training at the University of Brighton

Are you a graduate working in an early years setting? Are you looking to undertake postgraduate study and improve your experience in order to meet the Teachers’ Standards (Early Years)?

The University of Brighton’s School of Education is now taking applications for Early Years Initial teacher Training which will lead to the award of EYTS and a PGCert in Early Years Education. You will also achieve 60 masters-level credits.

Early Years Teachers are graduate-level practitioners who recognise their role in improving the experiences and life-chances of young children. This course is fully funded and a financial incentive is paid to employers to support you.
