Last chance to shape strategy for town centres
Today is the final day to respond to our Town Centre Strategy survey.
We want your views on the centres at Twyford, Woodley and Wokingham, so we can help support them to grow and thrive. Almost 500 businesses and residents have provided views so far.
Your feedback helps us understand what’s important to you and how we support these areas in the future.
Partner sought for community space in Wokingham
We're looking for a local group or organisations to run a new community centre in Wokingham.
We're looking for an organisation to help turn this into a vibrant and welcoming hub, at Matthewsgreen in north Wokingham. We'll work together to provide range of events and activities which will benefit the local community for years to come.
In addition to being able to use the building to meet their own organisational needs, those taking on day to day management will be able to bring forward ideas to encourage community use and generate money from the space.
Expressions of interest in running the building are being invited from groups and organisations with a proven track record in community management, charity work or event promotion.
More information and a link to the application pack can be found on our council tenders webpage. Applications need to be submitted for consideration by Friday 25 October.
Footpath work at almost 30 locations
Our footway maintenance programme started in September, with nearly 30 sites completed, in progress or planned between now and the end of the month.
The programme forms part of our planned maintenance works that are carried out each year as part of our multi-million pound investment in our roads and paths.
This is separate from ongoing maintenance that takes place when we are made aware of issues, such as through reports by the public.
Our footway maintenance programme uses a protective slurry seal that extends the life of footways.
It's a thin, tough layer of asphalt emulsion blended with finely crushed stone to help with grip. It’s a cost-effective way of looking after the pavement surface and sealing minor cracks and other irregularities.
As with all works on our roads and paths, certain weather conditions are required for materials to be applied and properly set. This means that while we do have a schedule for planned works these may need to change to take account of bad weather.

 Volunteering opportunities event tomorrow
The Wokingham Volunteer Centre is holding a volunteer recruitment fair tomorrow (Saturday 5 October) from 10am to 1pm at Wokingham Town Hall (RG40 1AS).
Just turn up and find out about dozens of local organisations where you could make a difference. You only need to give up a few hours a week and it’s a fantastic way to give back to your community.
If you would like to find out more about the event or discuss volunteering in general, call 0118 977 0749 or email volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk
Free electric blanket tests before winter
Each year about 1,000 fires are caused by faulty electric blankets, with more than 250 injured in these fires.
So we’ve teamed up with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service to help residents test their electric blankets ahead of the winter.
This will run at Wokingham Fire Station (Easthampstead Road, RG40 2EH) from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Thursday 31 October.
Our Public Protection Partnership team will be there to test electric blankets and small portable heaters. No booking required, just drop in. There may be a wait on the day.
