Increased support for mental health in schools
Two-thirds of children at a state school in Wokingham Borough now have access to support from our Mental Health Support Team (MHST).
Their role is to help manage mild to moderate emotional health problems with the child or their parent/carer depending on their age. Support includes cognitive therapy-based interventions, advising on issues such as sleep hygiene and problem solving, as well as teaching young people how to manage anxiety and low mood.
The team also work with school staff to make sure they have the knowledge and information to support children and create a ‘whole school’ approach to good mental health and wellbeing.
Our Emotional Wellbeing Hub also offers a ‘front door’ into accessing further support, working in partnership with Primary Mental Health Team 4 Youth who offer similar support to the MHST service.
Support includes advice and guidance and onward referrals to other local services such as Sport in Mind, ARC Youth Counselling and the Tellmi app.
Bin day reminders? There's an app for that
The Scrapp app, brought to you by our partners at re3, can now send reminders to put out the right waste on the right day.
Just put your address and postcode in, and Scrapp can tell you when your next rubbish, recycling, food waste and garden waste collections are - as well as scheduling a notification so you don't forget.
But that's not all that Scrapp does. It has a database of more than 36 million products and you can scan the barcodes to find out whether it can be recycled and the best way to do it. The Scrapp is available to download for Apple and Android devices.
Sixth form coming to Arborfield school in 2026
Plans to increase capacity at the Bohunt School in Arborfield Green are progressing well, with preliminary architects ideas shared (see above image).
Work to finalise the plans is currently underway with the new sixth form expected to open in 2026.
We’re hosting a community coffee morning and volunteer recruitment fair at Lower Earley Library in Chalfont Close (RG6 5HZ) on Monday (30 September) from 10am to 12 noon. Just drop in and chat with our community partners. The event is raising money for St Barnabas Residents’ Pantry.
 Confirm your voting information
We are continuing to undertake the annual electoral canvass to ensure we have the correct voting information for as many people as possible.
Initial correspondence was sent out in August by email and post, but not all households were contacted at this stage. We will now be contacting other residents by post, as well as sending out reminders to those we have not heard from so far.
When you receive your letter, the important thing is to read it carefully, as it will tell you whether or not we believe there has been a change to your information and if we think you need to respond.
The process is important as it allows us to identify anyone who may be at risk of losing their voice at future elections. In October, door-to-door canvassers will be visiting households that have not responded.
You can respond on the Household Response website, but you will need to use the security codes provided to do so.
Dinton footpath upgrade starts on Monday
We are upgrading the footpath at White Swan Lake at Dinton Pastures to give a better visitor experience.
Work will start from Monday 30 September and is expected to take approximately three weeks. Here are more details about the project:
- Phase one - from the overflow car park to the River Loddon bridge. We will be levelling the current path and tarmacking the route. The work is planned to take five days.
- Phase two - from the overflow car park to Herons Water Lake. Work includes levelling the path and tarmacking and is expected to take nine days.
- Phase three - a few weeks later, we will finish with tarring and pea shingling both sections. This final step will take a couple of days.
After completing the work, the upgraded path will be as good as the Black Swan route we did two years ago.
The project is fully funded through revenues raised by our country parks, ensuring that we continue reinvesting in what matters to you.
During the work, there will be minor disruptions and some sections of the path may be closed. We thank you in advance for your patience.
