Light up your night with annual glow walk for charity
The highly anticipated Glow Walk, organised by First Days Children’s Charity, is returning to Dinton Pastures Country Park on Saturday 16 November.
You and your family can immerse yourselves in a beautifully illuminated two-mile course around Black Swan Lake, adorned with LED lights and glow in the dark decorations, from 5pm to 9pm.
There will be live music along the walk and you can sign up for a special glowing stand-up paddleboarding session too.
Hot and cold refreshments will be on sale and you are encouraged to put on your own accessories to make yourself glow.
First Days is offering tiered pricing to make this fundraising event accessible to as many people as possible. You can contribute based on your own circumstances and how much you can afford.
You'll have a smashing time with these pumpkins
Bring the whole family to Dinton Pastures Country Park for a spooktacular pumpkin fair on Sunday 27 October.
The day includes pumpkin decorating, face painting and pumpkin hunts and will run from 10.30am to 3.30pm.
There will also be fairground rides and inflatables, craft stalls, games and much more, with suggested entry just £1 per person.
Food and drink will be available to purchase and dogs are welcome, providing they are kept on leads.
Howzat! Free inclusive cricket sessions are back
Inclusive cricket sessions are being held at two of our leisure centres, including a new group starting in Wokingham.
Organised by Berkshire Cricket, sessions are held at Bulmershe Leisure Centre in Woodley from 5pm to 6pm on Wednesdays. This is the third year the group has run and it meets every week during term-time, with sessions suitable for everyone aged 12 to 25.
The new group is starting at Wokingham Leisure Centre from Monday 7 October, also from 5pm to 6pm.
There are opportunities to play regular matches and in the summer there are also cricket festivals. All sessions are free, with equipment provided and t-shirts for newcomers.
To find out more about the sessions, contact Chris Baker.
Get inspired by vegan market on your doorstep
The Wokingham Vegan Market is being held in Market Place on Sunday 13 October from 11am to 3pm.
The market is held every other month, on the second Sunday and there are lots of stalls with delicious food, eco-friendly gifts, live music and children’s entertainment.
It follows on from National Vegetarian Week (1 to 7 October), which is a great way to get inspired about bringing more veggies into your diet and considering the environmental benefits of eating less meat and dairy products.
Free club helping children to develop film skills
We’re offering a free Film and Screen Saturday Club to help young people develop their creative thinking and film production skills.
The club is for 13 to 16-year-olds and gives them an opportunity to explore film and screen, from production and sound design, to visual effects and animation. There are also visits to professional studios, trips to London and masterclasses with film and media industry professionals.
The club will run on Saturdays from 12 October for 21 weeks during term-time at Wokingham and Bracknell College.
The Film and Screen Saturday Club is a partnership of Wokingham Borough Council, Activate Learning, British Film Institute, Resource Productions and National Saturday Club, and supported by the Department for Education. It is funded by British Film Institute and National Saturday Club.
