 New council leadership
Following the election held last week, the council remains in No Overall Control with no party able to form a majority. The make up of the council is now:
- 26 - Liberal Democrat
- 22 - Conservative
- 5 - Labour
- 1 Independent
Discussions are taking place between the political parties to agree future arrangements. We will update you on this when we know more.
Cllr Clive Jones, who has been Leader since last May, has informed us of his intention to resign as Leader of the Council at next week’s Annual Council meeting on Thursday 18 May.
A new Leader and Borough Mayor will be elected at Annual Council. Once elected, the new Leader will also announce the new executive.

Get your King’s Coronation seeds from libraries
Free packets of seeds are available at all of our libraries to help celebrate the Coronation.
The seeds are wildflowers in red, white and blue. Each packet has instructions on what to do with them and the specific seed mix.
We’d love to see your photos later in the year once they flower. Email them to libraries@wokingham.gov.uk
Bus users can hop around for £2
Planning to travel locally this spring or early in the summer? Don't forget that single bus fares are capped at a maximum of £2 until 30 June.
This scheme, funded by the Government, applies to Reading Buses, Thames Valley Buses and Arriva services.
We'd encourage you to give it a try - it's healthier and better for the environment than driving, and will support our local bus companies.
You can read more on the Reading Buses and Arriva Bus websites. Find out more about walking, cycling and public transport in Wokingham Borough from our My Journey Wokingham team.
Watch out for fake charity collectors
Following a recent warning from Thames Valley Police, we're urging you to beware of bogus charity collections on the street or your doorstep.
Someone from this area has been out and about wearing fancy dress and taking significant "donations" for a cancer charity, but the charity has confirmed that it hasn't received a penny.
If you're approached by a collector, either outside or at home, ask for ID or call the charity to confirm who they are - and look the number up yourself, don't accept one from the collector.
Collectors need a permit from us to work on public highways or, in private premises, the permission of the owner or manager. They must stay on the spot, without blocking your path, and keep pots sealed.
If you think you've been approached by a bogus collector, report it online or call 101.
