Looking for a volunteer role?
A fair to recruit new volunteers for local charities is taking place at Wokingham Library on Wednesday (10 May).
Our Community Engagement Team has teamed up with Wokingham Volunteer Centre to run the event from 10am to 12 noon at our library at the Carnival Hub.
There will be a chance to meet local charities and organisations looking for local volunteers. Organisations attending will include The Link Visiting Scheme, ABC to Read, First Days, the Me2 Club, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Berkshire Remap, Wokingham and Earley Transport Scheme and many more.
If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering in your local community make sure you join us at this event.
There will be another volunteer recruitment event at Woodley Library on Tuesday 6 June, so save the date for your diary if you can’t make it next week.
Don’t be a victim of rising vehicle thefts
There's been an increase in thefts from cars and other vehicles in this area, so Thames Valley Police are passing on the following advice:
- Always lock your car, however long you'll be gone
- Keep valuables and other small items with you or store them out of sight
- Close windows fully - don't leave a crack that a thief could prise open or "fish" through
- Remove all signs of electrical devices like sat-nav "sucker" marks or chargers
- Never leave documents that could help someone steal your identity or sell the vehicle more easily
- Choose well-lit and staffed car parks where possible
- Take special care with keyless systems - consider measures like a steering lock, a signal-blocking fob case or blocking your vehicle in with another one
