Mayor's Christmas concert goes virtual
Want something uplifting to start your Friday? Watch a shortened version of the Mayor’s School Christmas Carol Concert which took place virtually this year.
Schools from across the borough, Berkshire Maestro’s Bracknell Music Centre Concert Band and Chance to Dance Stars CIC, performed a dazzling, virtual concert.
Children from schools took part in the concert including Grazeley Parochial CE (Aided) Primary School, St Teresa’s Catholic Academy, Polehampton CE Infant and Junior School, Farley Hill Primary School, Forest School and Windmill Primary School.
All proceeds raised from the virtual Christmas carol concert will go to Chance to Dance Stars CIC, a dance school for students with disabilities and their families in the local community. The full-length carol concert has been shared to parents and families privately.
Make the most of free parking this weekend
If you’re heading out to grab your final few Christmas presents this weekend, we’ve got free parking in our car parks across the borough.
This applies to car parks in Woodley, Wokingham, Twyford and Wargrave on every weekend in December and the first weekend in January. This includes:
- Wokingham - Carnival Pool Multi Storey, Cockpit Path, Denmark Street, Easthampstead Road (East and West), Rose Street and Shute End
- Woodley - Crockhamwell Road, Headley Road and Lytham Road (East and West)
- Twyford - Polehampton Close
- Wargrave - School Lane
We’ve been providing this to support shops in our town centres during the festive period for almost two decades! You can read more on festive free car parking on our news site.
New footbridges for walkers in Wokingham
We've extended our network of footpaths at Old Forest Meadows, a public green space off Old Forest Road in Wokingham, to include a series of bridges crossing the Emm Brook.
The popular walking site is among many which have been funded by developers building housing in the area. Take a look at the map of the walking route.
Find out more about this greenspace on the Old Forest Meadows webpage. Discover walking routes in the borough's 12 other beautiful greenspaces that the partnership manage for us via the Thames Basin Heath Website.
Catching festive fly-tippers
We’re cracking down on Christmas fly-tipping, reminding law breakers that ‘Santa is watching’.
We’ve increased our CCTV surveillance and ‘we are watching you’ signage across the borough’s hotspots, helping us catch and issue fines to fly-tippers.
If everyone plays their part in keeping the borough clean and green by disposing of rubbish responsibly and legally over the festive period, it helps look after our area.
If you use ‘man in van’ services we’d encourage you to check they have a valid waste carrier’s licence – checking this takes less than a minute and can be done via the Environment Agency’s website.
