A reminder to encourage your school to promote the Portsmouth School Nursing team to parents, carers and families through your communication channels. If you feel a child could benefit from extra health or wellbeing support, remember you are able to refer to the team.
School nurses work across all Portsmouth schools and offer a wide range of support including:
- Emotional wellbeing advice
- Help with sleep, toileting, and healthy weight
- Immunisations (e.g. flu and HPV)
- Support for complex health needs
- 1:1 sessions with children and young people
- Drop-ins and clinics for families
Children who are home educated can also access the service.

As a city, we pride ourselves on our extensive CPD offer, which is led by experts both within the city and beyond. Most of these are free of charge with priority access for our Gold, Silver and Bronze schools.

The next conference for Portsmouth deputy and assistant headteachers is on the afternoon of Wednesday 8 October 2025, at The Village Hotel, Cosham. This is a great opportunity, funded by the Portsmouth Education Partnership, to support senior leadership in Portsmouth schools across the PEP, provide CPD and look towards succession planning.
There is no need to book, simply turn up and ensure that you sign in on the register provided. Please see the agenda for timings and topics.
The summer term session will be on the morning of Wednesday 24 June 2026 at the same venue.

Following the successful rollout of these sessions last year, we are pleased to announce the three dates for the PEP primary curriculum subject leader network meetings in 2025-26:
- Autumn term: Wednesday 1 October 2025, 4pm - 5pm (in person)
- Spring term: Wednesday 4 February 2026, 4pm - 5pm (virtual)
- Summer term: Wednesday 3 June 2026, 4pm - 5pm (in person)

Media opportunity: Help us celebrate Portsmouth’s teachers this October |

Teach Portsmouth is proud to champion the incredible work of our city’s educators in the lead-up to Love to Teach Week (13–17 October). As part of our campaign, we’re inviting media and partners to a special flag-raising event on Monday 6 October 2025 from 3.30pm - 4.30pm, outside the Civic Offices in Portsmouth.
We will be raising a specially designed Love to Teach / Teach Portsmouth branded flag to mark the start of our celebrations. This symbolic moment will help spotlight the wider activities planned for the week, including a webinar on Routes into Training.
We’re looking for two early career teachers, one from a school-based route and one from a university-based route to share their journey into the profession with media in attendance. Their stories will also be featured across Teach Portsmouth’s social media channels as part of our campaign content.

These high-quality resources bring the subjects to life, helping to engage pupils and enrich their learning in history, religious education and RADE. The Hampshire History and RE Curriculum Centres provide a rich selection of online resources and teaching packs tailored for Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. Portsmouth SACRE resources
Don't forget that EMAS hold the SACRE resource boxes which can all be borrowed by any school in the city at no cost. The catalogue outlines a range of hands-on RE artefact boxes for use with your RE teaching units - they are well resourced and are ideal for experiential approaches to RE. The following religions are represented: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam and Sikhism.

Upcoming languages meeting |

The first joint meeting of the ALL Portsmouth Primary Hub, Portsmouth Language Leads and the Solent Language Network will take place on Wednesday 1 October 2025 at Admiral Lord Nelson School. The meeting will start at 4pm with refreshments from 3.30pm.
The focus will be ‘Communicating, collaborating and celebrating’ and will be relevant to teachers of secondary and primary language learners. If you have a new languages lead in your school, or colleagues who might be interested in attending, please do pass on the flyer.

The Department for Education will be delivering a webinar specifically aimed at school leaders on Tuesday 30 September 2025 at 4pm. The aim of this will be to ensure senior leaders understand the importance of the writing framework, its key messages, and expectations for them on writing over the next academic year, to help them to plan next steps in their trust/school/authority.
Reading Fluency CPD | Register now
Are you a KS2 reading lead or SLT with strategic oversight for reading? Join Springhill English Hub for a series of Reading Fluency training sessions, aimed at year 3 onwards. On completion of the training, you will receive a DfE-accredited certificate.
You must be able to commit to all sessions and spaces are strictly limited to 12, with 1 attendee per school.

 The Early Years and Childcare Team are thrilled to announce that they have the go ahead for an Early Years Inclusion Centre (EYIC) in Portsmouth to be established. They are looking for an existing mainstream provider to take on the delivery of the EYIC offer.
Please see the expression of interest form and consider whether your setting meets the criteria. Please also refer to what PCC and the Early Years Inclusion Team can offer in return for delivery of the EYIC and also the expectations for delivery of the EYIC offer.
The deadline for return of expressions of interest is Wednesday 8 October 2025 and they should be emailed to eyinclusion@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

The annual Careers & Apprenticeship Show is back for September 2025. This event invites young people aged 15-25 and their parents/carers to find information about education, apprenticeships, and careers opportunities beyond secondary education.
Date: Wednesday 24 September 2025 Venue: Mountbatten Centre Doors open: 3pm - 6pm
This free event is an opportunity for you and your young person to explore the range of progression routes available in and around the city.
Around 60 employers, FE colleges, and training providers will be exhibiting at this event, to answer your questions and showcase the range of opportunities in their business and industry.

Education Information Services School Data Meetings |

The next school data manager meetings organised by Education Information Services (EIS) will take place towards the end of September. These meetings are aimed at staff responsible for data and statutory returns (including head teachers, finance officers, MIS managers or admin officers). They are of benefit to both new and experienced colleagues.
The sessions will include updates on attendance, Synergy and the DfE's School Census and other forthcoming data collections, to ensure that schools are obtaining best value from the team.
Sessions will be held via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 24 September 2025 (PM) and Thursday 25 September 2025 (AM).
Please book your session via the training and events area within the Portsmouth Traded Services website.
Attendance is free for schools that purchase the EIS SLA. Schools that do not buy the full SLA can pay to attend on an ad hoc basis.

Schools' Christmas Carols 2025 |

The annual Schools' Christmas Carol Service will take place within Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 15 December 2025 at 6.30pm. Doors will open at 5.45pm and we request that all attendees are present by 6.15pm. The event will last until approximately 7.15pm.
Event tickets
If your school would like to attend, please respond using the form to state the number of tickets required. A ticket will be required by every person attending this event, whether they are a teacher, student, sibling or parent/guardian. Please note that children and parents/guardians must come as a part of a school group, and cannot attend this event on their own. Please note that space is limited and tickets will be issued to schools on a 'first come, first served' basis. We request that all responses are received by Friday 5 December 2025.

Songbook cover competition
This year we are bringing back our songbook cover drawing competition and would like to invite pupils to get involved! Please create an A4 Christmas scene poster using the guidelines. The winning artwork will be used as the front cover of the programme. Entries for this competition should be received by Friday 14 November 2025.
