Catch22
The Digital Edge Programme 2 days a week for 4 weeks and is done completely remotely using Microsoft Teams.
The programme is funded by Microsoft and aims to help people between 18 and 45 into the Tech industry. After completing the programme you will then have access to 1 2 1 career coaching and in work support once they find employment.
Over the 4 week programme you will get vital employability skills training, insight into the digital and technology sector whilst doing practical activities and gain confidence in applying for digital apprenticeships or entry level IT roles, with the view of launching their career.
You should be:
- Interested in a digital and tech industry
- 18 to 45 years old
- Access to laptop/computer and headphones
- Based in Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and London
- Not in Education or Employment
- Have the right to work within the UK
- Have a basic level of IT Skills
The programme covers the different type of tech roles available in the industry, the different tech jargon terms, how to tailor a cover letter and CV to these specific positions and they even do group projects. Alongside their facilitators they do have guest speakers from Tech Apprenticeships providers, and Microsoft staff also speak to the group about the tech industry.

Manchester Jewish Museum
Become a social media volunteer
Are you a content creator? Do you make videos on TikTok or manage an Instagram profile? Would you like to help share hidden stories from the museum’s archive with the world?
They are looking for two volunteers to help support their marketing and communications manager in creating engaging content for the museum’s social media channels.
They are looking for young 18 to 25 year olds and creative people, who use social media on a daily basis, understand trends on different platforms and can support them with video creation for Instagram and TikTok. This is an opportunity for students and people starting their career in creative industries, who would like to develop their digital content creation skills and build their portfolio.
Volunteers will be given access to a laptop and editing programmes like Adobe Premiere Pro. Don’t be put off if you don’t have experience working in museums. They would be interested in volunteers that could offer regular support (commit to a minimum of 4 hours, fortnightly).

Manchester Metropolitan University
Short courses
Their new 12 week courses, designed in partnership with employers and industry leaders, offer a flexible and responsive pathway to higher education which lets you set the pace for your own study.
Each course consists of two six week units, which means you don’t have to commit to long periods of study. Each unit involves one weekly evening workshop, lasting two hours. The rest of the unit is entirely online, and completely flexible, consisting of bite size steps, each no longer than 30 minutes which you can do whenever you want.
You can choose to do up to four courses over three years and achieve a Certificate of Higher Education (equivalent of first year undergraduate degree).
Students need to be 18 plus to apply.

Individual Pathway of Support Scope provide employment advice to disabled people wherever they are on their journey into work, you could be looking for volunteering to gain that first step or be looking for a new paid opportunity . Each person who joins the service will have support from an Employment adviser for up to 13 weeks to support them to reach their employment goal which could be by;
- identifying their strengths and transferable skills
- developing confidence and job skills like time management
- reviewing their CV to meet your employment goals
- how and where to look for jobs
- mock interviews
- how to talk to your employer about their impairment and reasonable adjustments
You will have access to their selection of training modules and their online job board, which has exclusive vacancies from partner organisations, recruiters, and employers who are committed to employing more disabled people. The Service is free and open to people who are:
- disabled or have an impairment or condition
- living in Greater Manchester
- aged 16 and over
Starting Line pre employment training course Scope are here to support and work with people with any disability, learning difficulty, mental health condition (e.g. anxiety, depression), physical impairment, sensory impairment, or long term health condition, and anybody who is neurodivergent, including autistic people. This service is most suitable for people who haven't worked before or not worked for a long time and are not currently working. Starting Line is a 7 week group course, covering a range of modules in pre employability skills, combined with one to one tailored support and guidance. Upon completion of the course, customers can expect to finish with; goal setting skills, an updated and improved CV, interview skills, sector specific job search knowledge, and guidance on how to talk about their disability / health condition. Transport and Logistics Courses
They are providing level 3 courses in Transport, warehousing and Logistics. The training is fully funded at no cost to anybody involved, this is made possible via the Skills for Growth program. There are no entry requirements (or restrictions) in terms of company size or turnover, no requirements for the learner other than being aged 16 plus (other than being employed).

Digital Careers Upskill Programme Free training opportunity for employed people in Greater Manchester! If you work in Greater Manchester’s digital, creative and tech industry, or would like to, you could benefit from new, fully-funded training through Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Skills for Growth programme.
The Digital Careers Upskill Programme will support both people currently working in the digital field to upskill their existing knowledge base in order to progress, as well as re-skilling individuals working across different sectors who would like to get into a digital-focused career.

Sonder Radio 50+
Sonder Radio is a community radio station for the 50+ demographic in Greater Manchester. Founded in 2016, their key aims have been to promote wellbeing, reduce isolation and advocate digital inclusion. They achieve this by running various creative workshops and connecting people through the content made by the community at Sonder. They encourage people at all skill levels to take part in their workshops, as they are catered to help teach and guide every participant from the ground up. They pride themselves on not leaving anyone behind. There is always, in every person, the capacity to learn something new and at Sonder Radio they hope to provide that experience for everyone that gets involved.

Volunteer to become a Reading Coach - helping adults with reading
Read Easy UK is a registered charity that works through affiliated local groups to provide one-to-one reading coaching to adults, using trained volunteers. As a volunteer Reading Coach you will receive training, to introduce you to some of the issues faced by adults with reading problems and how to use the Reading manuals. Free Level 2 qualification
The courses they offer take around 30 to 60 hours in total to complete online. You will be given up to 12 weeks to complete your course. You will have tutor support throughout your learning journey. On completion you will be awarded a nationally recognised certificate from CACHE or NCFE.
