All schools should be aware of unsolicited offers for “free trials” of goods and services. Often, they contain clauses that state that after the free trial period ends, the school will automatically be enrolled on a subscription and payment becomes due. These clauses are often contained in the small print and so are not immediately obvious. Schools are given the option of cancelling at the end of the free trial, but it is all too easy to forget to do this and end up having to pay. Some companies involved in this type of practice take a robust approach to enforcing the debt, including taking the school to court. Please be very cautious of any offers of this type you receive and ensure you carry out appropriate due diligence before proceeding.
