An issue has been identified related to the pay freeze in 2021 which may affect a small number of teachers in relation to their pension.
Those who may be affected are teachers:
- who first joined the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) prior to 1 April 2015. (Those who joined after this date only have membership in the Career Average Scheme which is not impacted); and,
- who have not received any pay increase this year. (If a teacher received an incremental rise or additional allowance or moved to a promoted post will have had a change of pay and their pension will therefore be revalued. NB a change of hours would not count as a pay change if the FTE pay rate is the same); and,
- who are within 10 years of retirement (as the exact date of retirement is likely to be unknown, this should be deemed to be age 55 – the first point at which a teacher may access their pension benefits i.e. any teacher aged 45 and one day on 1 September 2021)

For those schools that gave commitment to join the ESPO framework and completed a utilities interest form, we’re pleased to let you know this is now in motion. You will shortly be receiving notification (or will already have received notification) from Waterplus (your old supplier) that your supply is due to move across to a new supplier (the new supplier is Wave).
Waterplus will issue you with a final invoice in the coming weeks and you will also receive your first invoice from Wave at some point in May.
Your first invoice will be pay on invoice (card, BAC, etc), but you will then have the option to set up a direct debit if you wish.
Day to day, nothing else will change and you will remain in full control of your payments/account as you’ve been in the past.
The main benefits of being part of the water framework are a dedicated account manager who’s contact details will be on the invoice, slightly discounted rates and monthly readings to give greater visibility of consumption and cost moving forward.
For schools that may be interested in joining the water framework in the future, the next opportunity will be at the start of July 2022. Please email sheree.wesson@coventry.gov.uk or energymanagement@coventry.gov.uk, no later than Friday 3 June to express an interest.
Webinar - increasing childhood vaccines uptake
Public Health is keen to support services working with parents/carers and pregnant women to ensure that immunisations are being undertaken on time every time, and if a vaccine has been missed to contact their GP to catch up on their vaccines.
Public Health and our NHS partners would like to request that you send a representative to one of four webinars to learn more about the issue and how you can support local families to protect their children and the wider community from vaccine preventable disease. Book your place via Rayyan.nasser@coventry.gov.uk
This training session aims to introduce some definitions and evidence around inter-parental conflict and its impact on children, give you a chance to use this lens to reframe some of the work you are already doing, give you a chance to explore some ways to approach things differently, and support you to think about how you can develop your practice in this area going forward.
4 May 10am – 12noon
5 May 1pm - 3pm
9 May 12noon – 2pm
If you are interested in accessing this training opportunity please book your place directly with Marilyn Davis Marilyn.Davis@coventry.gov.uk and please share this information with your colleagues and contacts who may also be interested.
The Coventry and Warwickshire suicide support service, Amparo, are holding a series of webinars for professionals from April to June to introduce the service and explain how people can refer someone for support.
Amparo provides free emotional and practical support in a range of ways based on an individual's needs. This may include one-to-one individual advice, help dealing with police and coroners, dealing with media enquiries, support and guidance up to and including an inquest and help to access other local support services.
Please book onto a webinar through Eventbrite.
The service can be accessed by calling 0330 088 9255, emailing amparo.service@listening-ear.co.uk or through an online referral form.
You can find out more about Amparo and the services offered online.
Last chance to sign up for the CEP fully funded dance CPD with the Royal Opera House. There are still a few places left next week on either 3, 4 or 5 May and the training is in Coventry.
Schools who complete the training will have the opportunity to obtain fully funded places to take children to see The Nutcracker in London this December (tickets and transport).
This is a fantastic opportunity to improve dance provision.
Please contact deputy@earlsdon.coventry.sch.uk if you would like a place.

‘Evidence-based strategies for effective and enjoyable grammar instruction’ course with GianFranco Conti; international keynote speaker, professional development provider, writer of instructional materials, blogger as well as an author of books and articles on language pedagogy. This course is designed for language teachers/departments interested in and already using the Cognitive Load Theory and Applied Linguistics approach. Bring the Power, Birmingham 2022’s Youth Programme, is inviting young people aged 4 to 14 to send in good luck artwork and letters to welcome athletes to the Commonwealth Games this summer. The letters will be included in the Welcome Packs given to all athletes on arrival in July and the artwork will be displayed in the Athlete’s Villages to help motivate the athletes before and during their competition.
We are inviting all schools in Birmingham and the West Midlands to take part in both the letter writing and artwork challenges. Further details and information, including resources are available online.
