Good morning,
Monsoon season has officially arrived in Pima County, and parts of our community have already experienced heavy rain, strong winds, blowing dust, and localized flooding. While these storms bring much-needed moisture to our desert, they can also develop quickly and create dangerous conditions with little warning.
The good news is that Pima County offers a variety of resources to help residents prepare before storms hit and stay informed during severe weather. The Pima County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) encourages everyone to sign up for MyAlerts, the County's free emergency notification system, which provides timely information about weather emergencies, evacuations, road closures, and other critical events. The County's Emergency Alerts website also serves as a central hub for current emergency information and preparedness resources.
The Pima County Regional Flood Control District also provides valuable flood safety information, including flood-prone area maps, road closure information, and tips to help protect your family and property. Remember that flash flooding can occur even if it isn't raining where you are. Never drive through flooded roadways.
Remember: Turn Around-Don't Drown!
Whether you've lived here your entire life or are experiencing your first Arizona monsoon, now is the time to prepare. Create an emergency plan, assemble basic emergency supplies, secure outdoor furniture before storms arrive, and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. A little preparation today can make a big difference when the next storm rolls through.

Our community is strongest when we debate ideas with respect and reject hatred in every form. There is no place for antisemitism, racism, sexism, or intimidation in our elections or our civic life.
Let's continue building a community where everyone can participate in public service safely, respectfully, and without fear. Political disagreements should never become personal attacks rooted in hate.
I signed this community statement because silence in the face of hate only allows it to grow. We can disagree on policy and politics without demeaning or targeting one another because of our identity.
