When classes start later this month, students at Mica Mountain High School can look forward to a safer drive – or ride – home, thanks to a recently completed project by the Pima County Transportation Department.
Until recently, drivers exiting the school parking lot were obliged to turn across two lanes of traffic on Valencia in order to go west on the busy street.
The solution Transportation's team came up with was fast, cost-effective, and will significantly reduce the risk of a collision at the intersection.
Pima County investment helps families find home of their own
Karina Morales is ready. Scissors poised in front of the red ribbon stretched across the door.
Her door. Her home.
Her 5-year-old son is ready, too. “Cut it! Cut it!” he exhorts before beginning a chant as if he’s rooting for his favorite sports team. “Mom-EE! Mom-EE!”
And just like that, Karina cuts the ribbon, ending one journey and beginning another.
On a recent emotional Tucson morning, 12 families received keys to their homes at Angels Crossing, a new affordable housing development on Tucson’s northwest side supported by $1 million in gap funding from Pima County.

County launches new mobile-friendly Loop website
Pima County has revamped the Chuck Huckelberry Loop website, making it easier to navigate and much more friendly to mobile users.
To make the public and Loop users aware of the update, the County Communications Office has launched a “Put The Loop on Your Phone” social media campaign to show users how to find all the great content about The Loop through a simple touch of their cell phone home screen.
The improved site at pima.gov/theloop features a sleek, streamlined layout; user-friendly buttons; and an intuitive interface. It can easily be saved as an app button to a smartphone, so runners and cyclists can keep the site — and its wealth of information — within easy reach while they're out on the trail.
