AAED Leadership Retreat sets the stage
for a strong year ahead
The Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) kicked off its new leadership year with its annual Leadership Retreat from June 24-26, 2026, at the Omni Tucson National Resort.
The retreat brought together AAED's Board of Directors, committee chairs, and volunteer leaders from across Arizona to strengthen relationships, align priorities, and prepare for the year ahead.
Ajo hosts Moonshot
Rural Pitch Competition
For the third year in a row, Ajo will be hosting the Moonshot Rural Pitch Competition on July 14, 2026, a Shark Tank-style event where local businesses can win cash prizes and a chance to pitch in the statewide competition.
As of July 8, there were eight contestants for the competition – and it’s not too late to sign up. Ajo residents can sign up on the Moonshot website by 9 a.m. on July 14.

Beat the Heat: Keep your business and employees safe this summer
Summer in Southern Arizona brings extreme temperatures that can impact employee health, customer comfort, and daily operations. Whether your business has employees working outdoors, managing deliveries, or welcoming customers into a storefront, taking simple precautions can make a significant difference.
Pima County's Beat the Heat campaign encourages businesses to prepare before temperatures peak. For employers, that means scheduling outdoor work during the cooler morning hours whenever possible, providing frequent water and shaded rest breaks, and training employees to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, but they are preventable with proper planning.

Lemos selected as CFO for
Tech Parks Arizona
Tech Parks Arizona, a key driver of innovation and university-based economic development in Southern Arizona, is pleased to welcome Stacey Lemos as Chief Financial Officer.
Lemos brings more than 30 years of financial leadership experience in Southern Arizona’s public sector. She most recently served as Assistant Vice President/Comptroller at the University of Arizona, where she led accounting services, tax compliance, payroll operations, and financial reporting. In that role, she was responsible for the University’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and worked closely with the Arizona Auditor General’s Office on the institution’s financial audit.
