Highlights

Ready Washington: Senior year in high school is a whirlwind of emotions and activities. Western student and Ready WA Student Storyteller Arianna wished she had gotten advice about managing her senior year, so she reached out to seniors from her former high school to gather tips and put them together in an infographic.

Partner Updates

The Equity in Education Coalition: EEC is seeking student leaders (ages 17-25) to participate in our K-12 Education Visioning Project. This is a paid opportunity. Reach out to EEC for more information. Applications are due to Logan Endres (logan@eec-wa.org) by August 18.

Better World Day at Innovation Lab High School

Innovation Lab High School in Bothell (Northshore School District) is a member of Washington's Mastery-based Learning Collaborative. It's a grant program supporting schools in implementing mastery-based learning (MBL). One of the common elements in MBL classrooms is project-based learning--ILHS students are very familiar with this way of learning. You can see the passion and joy when you see them confidently present about topics that they feel will make the world a better place. Social, policy, and environmental change were only some of the big concepts students grapple with at this event. Watch the short video featuring a few projects.

Become a part of Washington's Mastery-based Learning Collaborative (MBLC)

Interested in applying to become a new MBLC member school? Come to an info session to learn about culturally responsive mastery-based learning, the experience of joining this community of schools, grant funding, professional learning, and more. NOTE: Viewing the August 10 or September 13 Cohort 2 Info Session is a required step* in applying for MBLC Cohort 2 membership.

The Board will meet August 16-17 at the Charter College in Vancouver.

Private school approvals
Basic Education certification
Legislative requests
School climate survey
School recognition program update
Community engagement planning

Districts: Deadline for Basic Education Approaches

District leaders, please check the status of your Basic Education submission and contact Viktoria Bobyleva (Basic Education Manager) if your submission has a note requesting you to reach out.

All responses must be submitted no later than August 23. Final certifications will take place at the September 7 SBE meeting.
