"All common schools shall give instruction in...physiology and hygiene with special reference to the effects of alcohol and drug abuse on the human system. All teachers shall stress the importance of the cultivation of manners, the fundamental principles of honesty, honor, industry and economy, the minimum requisites for good health including the beneficial effect of physical exercise and methods to prevent exposure to and transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, and the worth of kindness to all living creatures and the land."
This required rationale can support effective Health and Physical Education instruction in our schools from RCW 28A.230.020

Awards
The
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award recognizes
sports teams, athletes, and community-based organizations that use sports to
help people achieve health and well-being, especially those who are facing the
greatest challenges.If
your organization is helping children maintain a healthy weight, creating safe
play environments, eliminating bullying, abuse and violence, or expanding
opportunities for children living in poverty, we'd love to hear about it!
Nominations are currently being accepted for the Patsy Collins
Award for Excellence in Education, Environment, and Community. It honors
extraordinary teachers in Washington state. Each year, three teachers or teams
are awarded $10,000 to use at their discretion. Classroom teachers you
know who teach with the integrated ESE standards in mind would make great
applicants for this award!
