The Department of Health (department) is proposed amendments to clarify the definition of "culturally congruent care" in WAC 246-835-010 and 246-835-025. This is to clarify that all applicants who are applying to be a certified birth doula shall be required to demonstrate knowledge of culturally congruent care. Through an attestation applicants will have successfully completed a training or have experience in culturally congruent ancestral practices, training, and education. The department also proposed amendments to WAC 246-835-040 to comply with Second Substitute House Bill (2SHB) 1724. The intent of the 2SHB 1724 is to reduce barriers of certification. Supporting document: Filed CR-101 WSR# 24-09-050.
The department in collaboration with the Doula for All Coalition welcomes your participation in the rulemaking process. Please email comments or concerns pertaining to the proposed amendments by June 17th to Kim-Boi.Shadduck@doh.wa.gov. The department's next step is to file the CR-102.
