Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS. GBE is celebrating Read Across America with a Spirit Week!
Monday 3/4 – Read Across America! Wear a shirt with letters or words on it. Tuesday 3/5 – Student Holiday! Relax and read a book at home.
Wednesday 3/6 – Book Character Day! Dress as a character from a book you love.
Thursday 3/7 – Reading is Wonderful! Wear your house colors.
Friday 3/8 – We are GBE! Wear green or GBE spirit wear.
Fifth and Sixth grade volunteers will also be reading to lower grade classrooms on Friday, March 8th
The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the safe and efficient administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.
Therefore, March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day. As outlined in Regulation 4421, School Planning Days are directed by school-based Administrators in order to devote time to school improvement efforts, including collaboration around data, common assessments, responsive instruction, etc.
Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as on other professional work days.
Please come support our 2nd graders at their performance!

Parents, please arrive by 5:50 so we can begin singing at 6!
GBE SCA will be selling "Lucky" pencils and erasers to raise money for future service projects at our school.
We have shamrock themed pencils for $.50 and erasers for $.25. You can add a kind note for FREE!
Parents, joining your student for lunch? Why not surprise them with a little "LUCK" while you're at it!
Students can purchase these and write their note from 9:00 - 9:30 Monday - Friday in the gym, from Mrs. Mac or Ms. Wagar. Parents, you may purchase one for your student in the office with Ms. Barreto or Mr. Malsam.
Sales start on Friday, March 1st and will end on Friday. March 22nd.

Today's Attendance rate is 85.1 %.
As of today, students enrolled at the beginning of the school year that have missed 11 or fewer days of school are helping us reach our goal of 85% (percentage of students not chronically absent). Thank you for making regular school attendance a priority! We love dancing our way out of the building on Fridays at dismissal when our overall chronic absenteeism rate is below 15%!

Use PickUp Patrol to report absences
In emergencies, email or call the front office
This is a reminder to put your students' absence, arriving late, or leaving school early in Pickup Patrol (PUP). All default plans should be up to date. Make sure you change the default plan anytime you change your students' permanent dismissal. Emails and phone calls are no longer encouraged, except for emergencies. When you enter a change in PUP, it goes directly to your child’s teacher as well as our front office staff. Please remember to provide a reason for the absence, late arrival or early dismissal. Changes must be entered on PUP by 2:30pm each day. If you need assistance setting up your PickUp Patrol account, please reach out to Adriana Barreto at 703-633-6400 or aabarreto@fcps.edu.
