Dear Haycock Families,
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to assist with the Book Fair. We appreciated your time and help, and you helped make the Book Fair a great success. Many thanks to Ms. Sklar for all her hard work on the Book Fair!
Our students gave amazing holiday strings and chorus concerts last week. We couldn't be prouder of them and their musical accomplishments. Many thanks to Ms. Blaha, Ms. Clark, Ms. Blitch, Ms. Ellis, Mr. DuBrular, and Ms. Altoff for preparing our chorus and strings students so superbly.
The School Board has chosen Scenario B as the solution to overcrowding at Kent Gardens Elementary. Please see the presentation to the School Board which includes a map of Scenario B. We are excited to welcome some new students to Haycock! We will be holding an Open House for these new students on January 25, 2024 which is an early release day for our students.
We are also very excited that our fourth grade students have been selected for the Ford's Theater Oratory Residency. Each class will be performing an important speech from American history at Ford's Theater on February 6. See this article for more information about this exciting opportunity for our fourth graders and all the work they are doing to prepare.
We wish you and your family a happy holiday season, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year if you celebrate these holidays. We look forward to seeing our students again on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Snow Days This Winter
For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather. During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):
Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story below, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.
Please submit the staff member name for recognition here.
