Save the Date: AAP Parent Virtual Coffee

Monday, Nov 22nd

In an effort to provide local access to full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services, our school is in the process of starting a Local Level IV Program. Level IV services will be available at Kings Park Elementary in Grade 3 and Kings Glen in Grade 4 beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

The Local Level IV Program will allow center eligible students to stay at their neighborhood school to receive full-time services and will also provide increased opportunities for students throughout the school to access AAP curriculum more often.

A virtual parent coffee will be hosted by Kings Park and Kings Glen via Zoom on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 9:00am. Register for the virtual parent coffee using this link. Zoom links will be emailed by 8:00am on Monday, Nov. 22.  During this meeting, we will discuss the process for becoming a Local Level IV site, describe what this means for our school, and answer any questions. We hope that you will be able to join us!

Wear-Green Spirit Day

Monday, November 15

National Recycling Day is on Monday, November 15th and it's ‘Wear Green’ Spirit Day at Kings Glen. Kings Glen's Student Leadership Council will be sponsoring 2 initiatives this year:

  1. Trex Recycling Challenge:  Trex® is proud to sponsor local recycling programs in universities and communities throughout the country. If your team can collect more than 500 pounds of plastic refuse in a six-month span (about 40,500 plastic bags), Trex® will donate a high-performance composite bench to your school or community. View this video to learn more about the Trex Recycling Program.  The challenge begins on America Recycles Day, November 15, and lasts until April 15.  (Printable Information Sheet)
  2. Collecting Pop-tabs from Aluminum Cans:  benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC.  Fun facts about pop-tabs:
  • We receive an average of $0.25 per lb.
  • Each pound is about 1,267 pop tabs.
  • A gallon size bag of pop tabs equates to about 2.5 lbs.
  • Approximately 63,360 pull tabs = 1 mile
  • Discovered in the 1820’s, aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth.
  • Aluminum is a durable and sustainable metal: 2/3 of the aluminum ever produced is in use today.
