Dear Dogwood Families,

With the cold and flu season upon us, your child may be sent home from the care room after presenting COVID-like symptoms. We all want them back in the classroom as soon as they are well. Starting Monday, October 4, the Return to School form is no longer needed, we will follow the following guidelines.

Students may return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have not had a fever without fever-reducing medications for at least 24 hours, AND have at least one of the following:

Please note, if your child has been identified as a potential close contact or close contact to a  positive case, your child will follow the guidance provided by the health department to be cleared to return to school.

If you have any questions about this new process, or how to navigate your child’s return to school, please call me at 703-262-3100.

Thank you for your help in keeping our students and school community healthy. Also, thank you for reminding students to dispose of masks properly. We've been finding a lot of masks thrown about outside.

With gratitude,

Kate Beckner, Kim Seck and Daphne Holliday

Indigenous Peoples' Day

Indigenous Peoples' Day: Monday, October 11, 2021
Indigenous Peoples' Day honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Native peoples, past and present.

It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in the United States, instead of Columbus Day. In 2020, the FCPS News Release about Indigenous Peoples' Day, notes in part: “As a community that values
diversity, equity, inclusion, and history, Fairfax County Public Schools should pivot from acknowledging Columbus Day, and instead celebrate Indigenous
Peoples’ Day…The land on which this nation rests had been occupied by indigenous peoples for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Europeans."

Meet your Administrators: Door 5

Come on out and meet with Kate Beckner, Daphne Holliday, and Kim Seck. We will be available at Door 5 on Wednesday afternoons to meet with you, answer any questions you may have, and listen to how things are going. We are excited to have this opportunity to catch up with our Dogwood Families.

mask up

Mask up!

Please remember to send your student to school each day wearing their mask. All students, staff, and visitors must wear a mask to enter the building and to ride the bus.

Please be sure to also send your student to school each day with 3-4 extra masks in their backpack. Many students like to change their mask after recess or lunch. Additionally, reminders to place old masks in the trash can to help us keep our campus clean.

Please help us keep our office stocked for emergencies by sending your student prepared for the day!

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Dogwood.
