1. Online Provider Portal open for Free Entitlement
Summer term actuals, EYPP and DAF claims (FE providers only)
The
Online Provider Portal is open for Summer Term Free Entitlement (FE) actuals
claims. Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) and Disability Access Fund (DAF)
claims must be submitted at the same time as your Free Entitlement actuals
data.
It
is important to read the “Free Entitlement – additional information for
providers” on www.westsussex.gov.uk/ecsfreeentitlement and follow the updated guidance
entitled “How to claim child-level funding” available here before submitting any information.
The
updated guidance now includes how to claim DAF for eligible 3 and 4 year olds.
(For further information about the DAF please refer to the Broadcast sent on
26 April 2017.)
Headcount
day: Thursday 11 May 2017.
The
deadline for return of your FE actuals data is Friday 19 May 2017.
Please
note that all children on your headcount record will be listed with 0 hours.
This will enable you to check and update all child records and will
reduce the risk of overclaiming.
If you have any
queries please contact the Family Information Service on 01243 777807 or email
free.entitlement@westsussex.gov.uk
2. Training
Subscription Scheme now open
We offer
settings and childminders unlimited access to a range of courses for an annual
fee. The fee payable depends on the number of practitioners covered, but works
out as never more than £52 per head for 2017/18, less than the cost of a single
course procured directly from leading training providers.
For more
information, links to course guides, fees payable and how to apply for the
2017/18 Training Subscription Scheme, please go to:
www.westsussex.gov.uk/traininginformation
Existing
members of the Scheme, please note: To attend training between 1 April 2017 and
31 March 2018, you must apply for a new 2017/18 Training Subscription Number.
Access to course booking through the Online
Provider Portal will be enabled when your 2017/18 application
has been processed and your new Training Subscription Number emailed to you.
3. Training
this month
We have
spaces on courses running this month on a whole range of topics to help you
make the most of your practice and provision and stay up to date with statutory
training.
Subjects
include sensory play, songs and storytelling, outdoor environments, inclusion,
movement and communications. Statutory training includes a range of child
protection courses and radicalisation prevention workshops.
See this calendar of courses for full details. You can book now through
the Online Provider Portal, call the Family Information
Service on 01243 777807 or email workforce.development@westsussex.gov.uk
Please
note, course codes that end in 'N' are exempt from the training subscription
scheme and free for all to attend.
4. DfE Early Years Entitlements – Operational Guidance
The Department for Education (DfE) has
published the Early Years
Entitlement Operational Guidance for local authorities. The purpose of
this guidance is to help local authorities and providers understand in more
detail the DfE’s expectation about how Free Entitlement should be delivered.
In West Sussex, we are reviewing our
documentation and processes to reflect the updated guidance so please look out
for updates in future weekly broadcasts. We would also encourage all providers
to sign up and attend the Business and Welfare Events happening across the
county in June and July 2017. To view the summer term training schedule,
please visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/trainingschedule.
If you
have any queries please contact the Family Information Service on 01243 777807
or email free.entitlement@westsussex.gov.uk
5. The sun has got his hat on!
With the hope that summer
may arrive soon the Sussex Community NHS
Foundation Trust Health4Families
Team would like you to promote the message of enjoying the sun
safely by supporting Sun Awareness Week 8 – 14 May.
Please consider
displaying this poster and
sharing the following NHS Choices messages with families:
- Encourage children to play
in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is at its strongest.
- Keep babies under the age
of six months out of direct sunlight.
- Cover exposed parts of
children's skin with sunscreen, even on cloudy days. Use one that has a sun
protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 and is effective against UVA and UVB.
Reapply often throughout the day.
- Be especially careful to
protect a child's shoulders and the back of their neck when they're playing, as
these are the most common areas for sunburn.
- Children should wear a wide
brimmed floppy hat to shade their face and neck.
- Use loose cotton clothes,
such as a long sleeved oversized T-shirt to protect their skin
- Protect children's eyes
with sunglasses that meet the British Standard (BSEN 1836:2005) and carry the
"CE" mark.
- Use a waterproof sunblock
of factor 15 or above when swimming outdoors and reapply after toweling.
