 May bank holiday bin collections
There are two bank holidays in May, and bin collections will still take place on both days as usual on Monday 4 May (Early May Bank Holiday) and Monday 25 May (Spring Bank Holiday).
On both days, collection teams will be starting earlier than normal, from 5.30am, so please make sure your bins are put out the night before or placed at the kerbside by 5.30am at the latest.
If you normally put your bins out in the morning, please be aware of the earlier start times to avoid missed collections.
Putting bins out on time helps crews complete collections efficiently across the borough.
Polling date next Thursday for local elections
Borough residents will head to the polls on 7 May, with voting open from 7am to 10pm.
Seats in every Wokingham Borough Council ward are up for election. There are also contests in some Wokingham Town Council wards, alongside a referendum with Charvil residents on the parish’s Neighbourhood Plan.
If you're aged 18 or over and registered to vote, you can take part. Remember, if you vote in person, you must show valid photo ID.
You can check your poll card for your voting and polling station information, or visit our website.
Get help with energy bills and costs
If you are struggling with high energy bills, fuel debt or keeping your home warm, Energywise Wokingham is a new free support service form Citizens Advice Wokingham.
The team can give you personalised energy advice to help you understand your energy use and identify practical ways to make your home warmer, more energy efficient and cheaper to run.
You can also get help with grants, discounts and financial support you may be entitled to, including support with fuel debt and prepayment meters.
You can choose a phone appointment or a face‑to‑face session at a local Citizens Advice office.
One year of progress on autism strategy
It’s been a year since the Wokingham Autism Partnership launched its All Age Autism Strategy, created with autistic residents, families and local partners.
A new video reflects on the first year of this five-year plan with a glimpse behind the scenes at some of the work underway. This is just the beginning of a long-term journey.
Resident voices and lived experiences continue to shape this work, with partners building on the progress made so far.
The strategy is jointly delivered by organisations including Wokingham Borough Council, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICB, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, alongside local groups and charities.
Repairs to A329(M) set to wrap up very soon
After the central barrier was damaged in a vehicle collision, the A329(M) towards Bracknell is now closed overnight for repairs until Saturday morning (2 May).
The closure is between Winnersh Triangle and Junction 10 of the M4, from 8pm until 6am, with a diversion towards Bracknell via Coppid Beech roundabout.
The road remains open outside these hours, and access between the M4 and Bracknell will be maintained.
There's also a lane closure on the A329(M) Reading bound, between Coppid Beech roundabout and the M4, which is in place both overnight and during the daytime to keep everyone safe until works finish.
The overnight closure is necessary for the repairs to be carried out safely, and all restrictions will be lifted once works finish on Saturday.
