Join planting project to remember loved ones
Join us in planting a tree as we remember those we lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid Memorial Woodland will be located to the north of California Country Park in Finchampstead. There will be two sessions every day from Wednesday 19 March to Saturday 22 March, starting at 9.30am and 1pm.
This project has been a long-held ambition of ours, giving residents somewhere to pay their respects and reflect. It will also help us to build on our commitment to making the borough carbon neutral.
Around 1,000 trees are set to be planted over the four days, but about 6,700 trees are being planted in the woodland overall. There will be 17 different species, including hazel, English oak and wild cherry, with the aim of replicating the existing species nearby and to help biodiversity to flourish.
We will be able to provide a limited number of spades, but we would encourage you to bring one if you have it. Numbers are limited for each event, so sign up now for your preferred timeslot and to find out more.
Dinton Pastures applies for wedding venue license
There’s exciting news for people who are engaged, looking to get married or have a civil partnership ceremony.
Dinton Pastures Country Park has applied to become a licensed wedding venue. If approved, couples could hold their ceremony indoors and outdoors, with wedding bookings taken from as early as this spring.
Appealing to happy couples wanting an outdoor rustic, festival or woodland themed wedding, two fields have been identified for hire.
For outdoor weddings, the events field is suitable for up to 300 people and is located opposite The Coffee House, while Dinton Pastures’ parkland at Lea Heath field is suitable for larger weddings of up to 1,000 people.
The Coffee House is suitable for intimate, indoor weddings of up to 50 guests. For larger indoor weddings, a stretch tent or marquee can be hired in the grounds at Lea Heath field. Outside space hire would start from £300 inclusive of VAT. Peak and off-peak pricing applies.
If you'd like to book a visit to Dinton to see the wedding venues, email the Countryside Events Team. For more information on marriages and civil partnership ceremonies, visit our website or check our ceremonies brochure.
Helping our children make 'Positive Choices'
Almost 400 students attended our recent Positive Choices events for Year 7 pupils, working in partnership with Thames Valley Police and our local neighbourhood teams.
The workshops included positive decision making and life choices, explored the themes of healthy and unhealthy relationships and highlighted the risks in relation to weapon crime and exploitation, fire safety and water safety and included opportunities for reflection and discussion.
Sessions were delivered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Thames Valley Police, our own Community Safety team, SoulScape and Storyy Group. Watch the video to see a summary of the sessions.
Last chance to take pharmacy survey
We want to know how you access and use pharmacy services in the borough.
We want to understand what services are needed now and may be needed in the future.
What you tell us will be used with other information as part of the Wokingham Borough Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). It takes about 5 minutes to complete and closes on Sunday (9 March).
