Care places for residents who need support
We’ve purchased another care home as we continue to invest in facilities to support older residents who need help.
The Hollies Care Home, a 58-bedroom care home in Burghfield Common, will now be run by our social care provider Optalis. It follows our purchase of Bluebell House Care Home, in Wokingham, in 2023.
Our borough has an aging population, so demand for high-quality, affordable residential and nursing care is growing.
By investing in The Hollies, we’ve made more of this provision available to our residents, ensuring they can stay within their communities through all stages of their lives.
We’ll work will work with residents and their families, as well as care home staff, to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.
Partnership strategies for more inclusive borough
We’re launching two strategies, as part of our ongoing effort to create a more inclusive borough and support everyone to thrive over the next five years. These are:
- The All-Age Autism Strategy, which sets out a shared vision and direction for local partners in supporting autistic people of all ages living in the borough
- The SEND and Inclusion Strategy, which outlines our plans to improve outcomes for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
These will shape the support residents in the borough get and ensure they have what they need to thrive.

Bus links improving in north of borough
New bus routes have been launched to improve connections between the Twyford area and Reading, Maidenhead and beyond.
Carousel Buses' 127 service has begun up to every hour on weekdays between Maidenhead, Knowl Hill, Twyford and Reading, starting on Sunday (23 February).
This has reinstated weekday links lost years ago, offering a regular service along the A4 corridor and direct connections to Maidenhead's hospital and railway station.
The 127 will be coordinated with the 850 service from Reading to High Wycombe via Henley and Marlow, which calls at Sonning, Charvil, Twyford and Wargrave.
The 850, also run by Carousel, runs up to three times an hour on weekdays between Twyford and Reading, while the evening and Sunday services will soon run up to every 30 minutes from 23 February.
We're supporting the evening and Sunday improvements to the 850, as are our counterparts at Buckinghamshire Council and Oxfordshire County Council.
Join us for a Council Plan drop in session at Wokingham Leisure Centre on Monday (3 March) from 6pm to 7.30pm. It’s your chance to tell us what you think we should prioritise for the next five years
