Save on your panels through Solar Together
We’re relaunching our scheme to help you to install solar panels and battery storage for your property. Solar Together makes it easier and cheaper for you.
Last year was the first time we offered this scheme and 316 residents accepted their offer to go ahead with the installation.
Our borough has seen the highest of all installation rates in the entire Solar Together Berkshire scheme. The installations led to:
- 3,184 panels installed
- 252,607kg of carbon reduction in the first year, equivalent to driving 880,900 miles in a car
- An estimated 6,315,185kg CO2 reduction in 25 years
- £2,689,918 invested into renewable energy
The scheme is operated and delivered across Berkshire by Solar Together and promoted by all Berkshire councils.
If you are a resident or a small and medium sized business interested in the scheme, you should register your interest online by Friday 9 August. Register as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
New library in Twyford opens its doors
A new library for Twyford is now open. The new community space has space for people to relax and read, study, browse resources and access services including free internet.
It’s also equipped with a specially designed children’s library which includes fun nook seating and storage. Check the opening times on our website.
Based in the Grade II listed Old Polehampton Boy’s School, on Polehampton Close, the new library offers a bright space which incorporates historical features including high ceilings, large panelled windows and areas of exposed decorative brickwork.
There are events in the next week if you want a chance to see it:
New contractor for Carnival Place apartments
A new contractor has been appointed to see the Carnival Place development in Wokingham through to completion.
Feltham Construction, a Newbury-based firm with more than 50 years of experience, has been chosen to work on the project, which will see 55 apartments built.
The development sits opposite the Carnival Hub in Wellington Road, which opened in the summer of 2022 and is home to Wokingham Leisure Centre and Wokingham Library.
The appointment of Feltham Construction became necessary after the previous contractor went into administration.
The Carnival Hub project features a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments, with a view to delivering high-quality and energy-efficient accommodation in the town centre

Send back your postal vote ASAP
Are you voting by post at the upcoming general election on Thursday 4 July?
The first batch of postal vote packs was dispatched on Tuesday (18 June), but some will be sent later depending on how recently you registered for a postal vote.
Keep an eye out for your postal vote, read the instructions carefully and ensure you return it as soon as possible, using a Royal Mail post box.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote has now passed and the final batch of postal votes will be sent out on Wednesday 26 June.
If you do miss the post, you can hand in your postal vote at the council offices at Shute End in Wokingham (RG40 1BN), or at your polling station on election day.
However, this means you must complete an additional form with an authorised member of staff, or your postal vote will be rejected.
